Thoughts on Pandora?

I recently read a baby names book where it said it was popular among the horsey crowd. Well, we are in no way horsey, very far from it. This puts me off the name slightly.

Also my husband thinks she would get bullied at school - 'Pandora'a box' etc. This hadn't occurred to me and I still think it's a bit silly.

I love the name Panda for short, is that a bit silly?

Thanks

Awful sorry!

Gruntfuttocks · 14/08/2013 00:23

If you like it, go for it. Whatever name you choose, someone somewhere will have an objection. Babies grow into their names. Panda is sweet.

squoosh, it was Profoundly in Love with Pandora by Ian Dury.

I don't think Panda is a good nickname, sorry.

Pandora Braithwaite was 'the love of Adrian Mole's life - intelligent and beautiful'

She gained a doctorate in languages from Oxford and became a Labour MP.

I can think of worse literary characters for a child to be associated with! Grin

Thanks Fillyjonk! I remember it well now.

Pandora is the main character in the new Lionel Shriver book. I finished the book liking the name!

When she get older, every half pissed bloke she meets on a night out will ask to see her box!
I love the name personally, but the piss taking will probably spoil it!

rubyrubywoo · 14/08/2013 12:08

I love it :) With children being named after fruit etc. a mythological name really isn't that far out ;)

squoosh · 14/08/2013 12:11

I was going to say it reminds me of boobs too, but realise that is another Adrian Mole association.

AltogetherAndrews · 14/08/2013 12:50

Makes me think of the film Notting Hill - "I knew a pandora once, never did get to see her box though."

It is a seriously fabulous name. Your daughter will love growing up with this name, honestly! Go for it!

With most fabulous names there will always be the odd person who doesn't like it. Rest assured this just confirms how interesting and unique it is. And how uninteresting and sheep like they are (but that's a whole other thread)
