I need a name for my son!!

After deciding on "Daniel* for our lo, due in 4 weeks, we've now since changed our minds after people saying it was a bit of a boring choice. :-( I do already have a nephew called Daniel and I suppose that was a factor as well.

Anyway, my husband and I quite like Lucian, which would be shortened to Luke, but spelt Luc.

I think it's unusual without being bully worthy....what do other people think??

I also like Arthur, Zachary, Benjamin and Sebastian....oh and his middle name is going to definitely be John, as both our dads are called that!

If you like Daniel why not go for that. You should ignore other people's comments. You are never going to please everyone and they had their choice when they named their children

Arthur is such a great name.
Luke/luc is a bit...meh
Zachary will get shorterned to Zak which has been the 'out there' name of choice for so long now that it is like a cliche
Ben sounds really wet
Sebastian will invite bullying.

Love lucian, really cool name. Also like Benjamin. I think Arthur will date just in fashion at the moment

Whatever you go for, don't tell anyone else before the birth and give them even the opportunity to make you doubt your choices.

I don't see why Lucian couldn't be spelled Luke (which I think is nicer) when shortened. It's like Catherine / Kate where the spelling / letters change.

Lucian shortened to luc is a winner. Beautiful name. But agree with other posters not to listen to other people's opinions on baby names. Daniel is a super name too really cool. And I don't know any little boy Daniels ...

Daniel is a lovely name. Don't other people force you to change it.

Lucian is lovely too but am less keen on Luc/Luke.

Lucian is also great but don't shorten it. Long like Lucian Freud is fab...

In my opinion Daniel is the best name ever. It may be popular, but that is because it's a really lovely name :)

Prefer Lucas rather than Lucien

But prefer Daniel over both of these. Boring name does not = borong person!

I really like Lucian, though I wouldn't really like to shorten it. I think Luc is the Welsh spelling of Luke is it not, so either spelling will work. I love the name Daniel (unfortunately its an ex's name so that's never getting used). If your hearts were set on it just use it.

I prefer Daniel and it is certainly not boring! Dan is a really cool name.

Lucian/ Luc is lovely. Personally prefer it to Daniel but I would go with whatever you like best.

I love the name Daniel! I wanted it for DS but it was DH's boss' name so would have been weird! Lucian or Luke (spelled that way though) is ok, I also really like Sebastian and Benjamin (though if you think Daniel is a boring name then I'd say that Ben is too, but I like both!). Not so keen on Arthur or Zachary.

I like Lucian/Luc a lot. Daniel is fine but I wouldn't use it if my nephew was Daniel (and tbh would be annoyed if I was the mum of Daniel and you used it). John is nice and seems quite under-used at the mo.

Love Zachary too, that was on our shortlist along with Nathan, Leon, Joseph, Dominic and Jacob.

Lucian is a bit Lucy-Anne for me. Like Luca though, which is increasingly popular. Also think about the middle initial e.g. Benjamin would make BJ.

What about Gabriel (nn Gabe)?

Love lucian/luc. Also love Sebastian. Daniel is boring and I kind of imagine it to be the generic name used when parents can't think of an actual name. Yet it is actually nice and there's a reason it's timeless.

What TotallyPaninied just said. I have very similar opinions on the name Daniel, it's a lovely, classic name, but just seems to require no thought or effort on behalf of the parents.
Sebastian is nice, but becoming really popular near me at the moment, and I really dislike Seb as a shortening. I prefer Bastian as a full name.
Lucian is lovely, although I don't like Luc as the short version, as the name doesn't make the hard K sound, but a soft one.
