I am well aware that both come high on the pretentious name scale. Middle name will be May after my granny. She'll have 3 older brothers.

I'm more concerned about " like in Harry potter" comments or being called "perse phone"

Which do you prefer and why?

I really like the name Hermione. I don't like Persephone at all.

MissPlumBroughtALadder · 09/08/2013 16:23

I like Persephone. Lots of cool nickname possibilities. And I do think you'd hear a lot of 'Harry Potter' comments if you went with Hermione.

burberryqueen · 09/08/2013 16:24

i would avoid Hermione for that reason
but Persephone is ok.
you will get people saying perse phone though.
if you want an 'out there' Greek name have you considered Antigone? Tiggy for short? or is that too hedgehoggy?
or Artemis?
okok i will shut up...

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 09/08/2013 16:24

Hermione is gorgeous, I also like Persephone but feel it is more difficult to live with.

LynetteScavo · 09/08/2013 16:24

Hermionie is nicer. It just sounds nicer.

SoftSheen · 09/08/2013 16:26

Hermione!

UriGeller · 09/08/2013 16:26

Hermione was on my shortlist, I'm still a bit sad we didn't choose it.

spotscotch · 09/08/2013 16:27

I have to say, I only found out the correct pronunciation of Persephone at the grand old age of 29 when I was on a phonics course at work, and the speaker was talking about how phonic knowledge develops or something and used the example of how many children would think that Persephone was pronounced 'per - se - phone' (as in what you would use to call someone).

I was like 'that is how you pronounce it isn't it?' Blush

I do think pronunciation could be an issue, or it might just be that I am really thick!

I do quite like hermione, again, until Harry potter I thought It was pronounced 'her - me - on' but you wouldn't have that problem now I guess. I suppose there may be some hp comments, but eventually that will phase out anyway I think.

Hermione!

spotscotch · 09/08/2013 16:28

Not Antigone - people WILL pronounce it 'Anti-gone'!

stickortwist · 09/08/2013 16:28

I had considered antigone but dh not keen. Artemis will always be fowl now ( so a male rather than female name)

Dackyduddles · 09/08/2013 16:31

Per-seph-ony is how I say it. Not Percy-phone. I like it. But I like Greek myths.

Avoid H as u say coz of Harry P...

burberryqueen · 09/08/2013 16:33

oh shame - love those names - i suppose you would either have people saying Anti-gone or going arf arf at the Oedipus thing.

lloydlf76 · 09/08/2013 16:37

I have a daughter called Hermione Margaret May. We've had nothing but positive comments about it. Yes you get HP associations but not so many that its annoying and personally I love HP and think the Hermione character is a great role model.

TSSDNCOP · 09/08/2013 16:39

Persephone

LOVE.IT.

MrsOakenshield · 09/08/2013 17:03

Persephone May is quite cool. Hermione is nice but too closely linked to Harry Potter.

NameoftheRose · 09/08/2013 17:08

Persephone and Hermione are both good with May.

How about Athene?

CruCru · 09/08/2013 18:54

I like Persephone better (Percy for short). However, will it bug you if people don't pronounce it?

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 09/08/2013 18:59

Didn't something awful happen to Persephone? I wouldn't.

Nicknamegrief · 09/08/2013 19:00

Hermione.

I don't think Harry Potter every time I hear the name Harry.

However don't do it if you have a Harry, IMO.

NoComet · 09/08/2013 19:02

I like them both, but I can't spell Persephone, my dyslexic brain tries to turn it into periscope.

Hulababy · 09/08/2013 19:14

I like both and infact both are my Dd's favourite names - she claims she is going to have twins named these!

Hermione - at least now everyone can pronounce it thanks to HP and it isn't like the character is a bad one either, infact quite the opposite

Persephone - like this and the nickname sephy. i think most people could pronounce it and certainly after first time of being told.

Saffyz · 09/08/2013 19:25

Hermione

RiceorChips · 09/08/2013 20:04

Hermione.

Really don't like Persephone.

WeAll · 09/08/2013 20:07

I love Persephone. Sephy or Percy, great nns.

MrsOakenshield · 09/08/2013 20:09

ooh, I don't like the nicknames. Just Persephone. Maybe Seph when she's a cool teenager. I think she'd be quite gothy.

What about Serafina?
