Hi all,

I am 20wks with DC2 and worrying that I haven't a clue about names as I had it sorted at this stage with DD!

My shortlists are below - I would love to get some feedback!

Some background... I am half Swedish so would like an element of that included, which can be through middle names as below. Our surname starts with D, ends with Y, and is quite typically Irish, although we are not. DD is Katy. Am sure this will out me to anyone who knows me!

Boys
Middle name will be Tomas, after my brother. This is the Swedish spelling; I am not trying to be 'different'!

Samuel Tomas George - double middle name to avoid initials of STD!
James Tomas
Edward Tomas
Joseph Tomas
Frederick (Freddie) Tomas
Oliver Tomas
George Tomas - this was 1st choice until Kate and Wills scuppered us!
(Had also been considering Jonathan Tomas but that would be John Tomas which is slang for a willy, so not a great idea!)

Girls
(Current middle name choice is Lucia - Swedish/December links - but I know this doesn't work with all of these first names, but it's my best choice at the moment - happy to hear alternatives!)

Eleanor/Elena Lucia
Phoebe Lucia
Polly Lucia
Annika (Annie) Lucia (poss too Swedish?)
Elisabeth (Libby or Beth) Lucia
Hannah Lucia
Erin Lucia
Rosemary (Romy or Rosie) Lucia
Ramona Lucia - I love Ramona but am pretty sure DH will hate it.

I love Frederick Tomas or Oliver Tomas for boys.

For girls I like Polly Lucia and Erin Lucia best I think, though Hannah goes well with Katy too.

Lovely choices, all of them. The only one I'm less keen on is Ramona. And to me, Tomas looks normal spelt like that (blame my 'exotic' parents!)

muppetthecow · 08/08/2013 14:12

I love Erin and Frederick, and they both go well with Katy. I also think Samuel is lovely. I don't think there's a name on there I don't like Smile

And don't fret too much about not having the name sorted yet - I'm due on Sat and DH and I still can't agree Confused

lisbapalea · 08/08/2013 14:25

Ha muppet I know I am being an idiot being this worried so far in advance! I think it's because we were lucky to 'just know' for DD very early on, so I was hoping to have the same feeling again! Good luck for Saturday...

Thanks for all the feedback so far - reassuring to know there are (hopefully) no complete howlers on the list!

They're all lovely (bar Romana, I'm with your DH on that one!)

Eleanor, Hannah, Elisabeth (Libby) and Erin were all on our shortlist Grin

James and Joseph are the nicest for a boy.

Kaekae · 08/08/2013 14:33

Oliver is just too popular, I have a six year old and everywhere we go we hear it and my son is constantly turning around to someone calling it.

I would then opt for George, but again, going to be loads now.

I love Frederick, Freddie for short.

Love Polly, nice similar alternative to the ever increasing Poppy.

Really like Rosemary too as it is a name I do not seem to her often.

lisbapalea · 08/08/2013 14:39

Interesting to see the Ramona feedback - I often see it mentioned positively on MN threads, which is what inspired me (I loved the Ramona books when I was little but had totally forgotten about them), but I doubt we would go for it as it's too 'out there' for us - we're pretty conservative (with a small 'C') when it comes to names.

Thanks kaekae for the honesty re: Oliver - I have always loved the name but it was a late addition to our shortlist because I was worried about its popularity. Popular for a good reason though, I think!

Loads of Chloes, Emilys, Hannahs and Eleanors aged 14/15 - dd's class is full of them

will they be back already?

soontobeslendergirl · 08/08/2013 14:45

I like all the boys names, all classic names though Joseph will sound quite Irish with your surname i think. Nicholas is another one that would fit nicely with your group and has a nice December tie in. I wouldn't worry about the George link either. You could always spell it Jorge and blame your foreign-ness :o (and i know that would normally be pronounced differently with that spelling)

Not as struck on all of the girls names - Katy is lovely btw. I don't really like Polly at all and a bit ambivilant about Pheobe and Ramona. I like Erin but agian this will sound very Irish with the surname if that bothers you. I like all the rest but Rosemary probably goes least well of those remaining after my cull :o

Katy and Eleanor , Katy and Hannah, Katy and Annika would be my top 3 I think

and for the boys:

Katy and James, Katy and Edward, Katy and Frederick would be my top 3 - but i still like Nicholas ....or maybe Matthew :o

lisbapalea · 08/08/2013 14:50

Thanks soon - I do also like Nicholas and Matthew. just not sure about a baby Nick?! I think always saying Nicholas could be a mouthful. I do like Matthew though.

soontobeslendergirl · 08/08/2013 14:52

Ah, but it would be baby Nico :)

soontobeslendergirl · 08/08/2013 14:53

don't even know why I am suggesting more boys names btw as all the ones on your list are lovely!

formicadinosaur · 08/08/2013 16:54

Like Freddie Lucia George

BlueStarsAtNight · 08/08/2013 18:48

They are all lovely names! I like Edward best from the boys, though not sure it goes so well with a D surname, so I'd prob vote Joseph. For girls, I love Hannah and think it goes perfectly with Katy. I do like them all though, even Ramona!

Nyla · 08/08/2013 18:55

Love Frederick and James.

Faves for girls are Erin and Hannah (but I am biased) Wink

RosesInTheRain · 08/08/2013 19:41

Like Annika- have a lovely Swedish friend/neighbour called this. Like most of the girls names actually, except Phoebe and Ramona. All your boys names are good, possibly Joseph edges it for me.

WideScreenViper · 08/08/2013 20:13

My favourites from your list are Frederick and Elisabeth, I also love Annika especially nn Annie and the suggestion of Nicholas or Nicol nn Nico.

kiwik · 09/08/2013 02:17

I like all your names - good, solid and classic names. Ramona and Annika are my faves from your girl list, and Frederick from the boy list.

DrDance · 09/08/2013 02:28

If you have a girl call her Lucia, lovely name, and then pick a middle name from your other choices. Lucia Rose sounds lovely

lisbapalea · 21/08/2013 14:30

Hi all,

Thanks for the feedback so far - I think we have decided on:

Samuel Tomas George surname
Hannah Lucia surname

BUT, I did wonder what people think of the fact that DD's middle name is Anna. Is that weird if another DD would be called Hannah?

OP posts:
noodlebum · 22/08/2013 12:06

From your list, my favourite boys name is Samuel, but all are nice.

Favourite of the girls names are Eleanor, Phoebe, Erin and Ramona, but again all are nice names. Good taste!

If you did go with Hannah, I don't see a problem with your first daughter having the middle name Anna as you wouldn't really use Hannah and Anna together any time Smile

Hazelbrowneyes · 22/08/2013 12:40

My top 3 Boys

  1. Joseph Tomas
  2. Samuel Tomas George
  3. Oliver Tomas

My top 3 Girls

  1. Elisabeth Lucia
  2. Elena Lucia
  3. Erin Lucia

I think these names are stunning and work so well with Katy too.
