Should you rule out names that are similar to a relative's?

Wasn't sure how to word that title - hope it makes sense! My dc have a cousin called Tara, does that mean I can't call a dd Lara?

I wouldn't even think twice about it - Lara is beautiful. I know cousins in my family whose children have the same name.

Lovely name!
No problem at all...my ds has exactly the same name as his cousin (including middle name)
There is 20 years between them, and we asked cousin's permission.

I think a lot depends on how close the relationship is.

If cousin Tara lives round the corner and you see her every day, then that might get a bit confusing or be too similar.

But if cousin Tara lives 200 miles away and you barely see her more than once a year, the similarity wouldn't really matter at all.
