Girls name short list...what do you think??

Munchkinsmama · 31/07/2013 09:55

I'm only 30 weeks but thought it was time to think of a name for baby #2, who is a girl! We already have ds who is an Isaac Thomas.

Our current shortlist is below...what do you think?

Florence.....this is the current front runner. Is this popular? I still don't know too many children and most are boys. But I do know one Florence.

Esme - how popular is this since Twighlight????

Amalie (I like this)
Amelia (DH prefered this)

Issy (as it is)

Mya (possibly too popular)
Constance (DH suggestion)
Summer (possibly a bit too frilly)

Middle name possibly Jean, after my nan, but all depends on first name choice. So suggestions on middle welcome too!!!

OP posts:

I love Florence but it does seem popular, if that worries you.

I don't like Issy as a stand alone name, and isn"t that a bit similar to Isaac?

I really like Summer if you're brave enough. A lot of people wouldn't like names like that.

OrangeBlossom2 · 31/07/2013 10:00

Amelie is my favourite name (slightly different spelling to yours), DH prefers Amelia because he thinks Amelie is too French but I am not keen. Amelia is also number one in the girls name charts if that matters to you. Amelie seems more pretty and friendly sounding to me.

Florence is also on our list as it was our favourite ever holiday together and we both like ti as a name. Reading online it is meant to be quite popular now but I have never actually met one. We would probably use it as a middle name.

frissonpink · 31/07/2013 10:00

Florence is ridiculously common popular

Summer seems a little bit chavvy

Esme - heard 4 being called out last weekend at a jungle gym type place

Love Constance actually. Classy.

Smartiepants79 · 31/07/2013 10:00

Don't know any Florence's. are you happy with the likely nn. Flo?
I have taught an Amelie- pretty.
Not a fan of Issy especially with Isaac. Or Summer.
Like Esme and have not met any yet.

Still18atheart · 31/07/2013 10:11

Florence. - love but i koiw it is quite popular
Esme - love only know of one and she's in her 20s
Amalie - don't like not sure how to pronounce
Amelia - love but also quite popular
Issy - mmm yes as a nn for Isabelle but not on it's own
Mya - I like the sound but have seen nice spellings
Constance - love classy sophisticated
Summer - quite like

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 31/07/2013 10:21

I think I like Summer the best. Although she's due in the autumn, right?

MyBoysAreFab · 31/07/2013 10:27

Esme was my girl's name when we had ds 14 years ago - was v unusual then but seems much more popular now.
I know a Constance, known as Connie - lovely!

rubylovesshopping · 31/07/2013 10:30

Love Constance shortened to connie that's the best of your list IMO.

fanjodisfunction · 31/07/2013 11:07

Constance or florence from your list.

Keztrel · 31/07/2013 11:24

Florence is vv popular and have never liked it, even when it wasn't popular.

Esme - nice
Amalie - nice but prefer Amelie spelling
Amelia - lovely, but vv popular, all my friends seem to be using it!

Issy - no, especially not with Isaac. Makes me think of snakes.
Mya - never heard of it! Looks odd. Is it pronounced the same as Mia? I like Mia.

Love Constance, great idea! Strong but pretty and classic.

Summer - quite like it :)

Littlecherublegs · 31/07/2013 17:06

I like Amelia and Mya (if pronounced as Mia) - quite like Maya too though.

Don't like the others.

MrsPercyPig · 31/07/2013 17:35

Florence, Esme, Amelie and all variations of isabella (Issy) are all super, super popular. I know lots of children with these names (I'm a teacher)

But I do think if you love a name you should use it and not worry as there will always be others with the name (unless it is a made up name!)

My favourite from your list is Constance with Connie as a nickname, I don't know any and I think it's fab!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/08/2013 17:23

I like Isobel (Issy on its own is a bit daft) but wouldn't use it with Isaac.
Esme is nice and I'd be far more likely to think of JDS than I would Twilight tbh.
Like Constance and Florence.
Don't like Summer and think that girls with names like that will always be judged whenever they are not behaving to suit their name!

Any of the others would work fine with Jean as a mn but I think Constance Jean sounds especially good.

ZolaBuddleia · 01/08/2013 17:26

I know one Florence, but a million Isobels, so the nickname Issy is really popular. It also is v similar to Isaac, IMO.

LOVE Constance, not keen on your other ideas.

MrsBungle · 01/08/2013 17:29

I like Florence. I only know one.

My friend has an Isaac Thomas. Her girl name was Martha.

ANormalOne · 02/08/2013 08:55

I like Amalie and Amelia but they are popular, I got around it by naming my DD Amalia, haven't met another child called it yet.

MERLYPUSS · 02/08/2013 19:07

We have very similar tastes. My DTs are Isaac and Thomas. Had they been girls they would've been Maia and Amelie or Constance (connie) and Grace. I love Florence (floss) and Eleanor (Nelly). Not too keen on Summer (sounds like part of a surname/supermarket). Issy is too much like like Isaac IMHO.

BlueStarsAtNight · 04/08/2013 11:47

I like Florence (only know 2) and Constance. Esme I'm not keen on. Issy is too like Isaac. Amelia is nice but v popular. Amalie I hate as it just sounds like you are saying Emily wrong, or just being desperate to be 'different'. Mya and Summer are not my cup of tea.

ExitPursuedByABear · 04/08/2013 11:48

Constance all the way. Lovely name.

dimdommilpot · 04/08/2013 18:42

My friend has an Isaac and is going for Amalie if she has a girl. I have an Esmé, i have come across another the same age and 1 in her early 30s so not massively popular where we are.

mathanxiety · 04/08/2013 19:52

I like Constance - I think it stands out among your other names.

Summer and Mya are not in the same category as Isaac.
Issy is too similar to Isaac.
Florence is nice but I don't think it goes well with Isaac.
Amalie and Amelia - meh - I think they are a bit insipid.
Esme is a bit Twilighty to me.

Beamur · 04/08/2013 19:57

All your names are nice.
Florence is popular in some places, I live oop North and don't know any locally. Esme/Mya (and it's many variations) are quite common (but still lovely names)
Constance and Summer stand out in your list as being charming but not overused names. Personally I'd prefer Constance as Summer is a bit American sounding for my taste.
I know lots of Issys/Izzys but not many as babies - I think it's a name that is declining (a little bit) in popularity.

Rhubarbgarden · 04/08/2013 20:09

Constance. No contest.

CheeseFondueRocks · 04/08/2013 20:34

I love Constance. Sadly DH vetoed it.

BaronessBomburst · 06/08/2013 12:32

Isadora Jean? From your list I prefer Constance and Amelia.
