Would the initials VD be wrong

Or is that an old term for STI. I don't want a child to be lumbered with embarrassing initials.

Very wrong, please don't do that to a child!

mirry2 · 31/07/2013 00:18

Best not.

5madthings · 31/07/2013 00:24

Well it hsdmt been a problem for Victoria Derbyshire (sp) the radio presenter. I wouldn't think it would be an issue.

AdoraBell · 31/07/2013 00:32

I wouldn't do it, either to a DC or to myself via marriage.

Sinkingfeeling · 31/07/2013 00:35

VD were also my sister's initials before she got married. Not sure that she's ever forgiven my Mum for lumbering her with them, to be honest.

GibberTheMonkey · 31/07/2013 00:37

I was going to mention Victoria Derbyshire
And vin diesel
I've never thought oh she's/hes VD

Anjou · 31/07/2013 02:51

I've been trying to think of famous people who have the initials VD. Other than Vin Diesel, I can only think of Vera Duckworth, Vera Drake & Val Doonican (sorry - cant think of anyone more recent!). Has anyone ever thought "Blimey that's unfortunate" about their names/initials? I haven't, but again I may be in a minority.

Onyabike · 31/07/2013 06:41

Re the above poster's reference to Victoria Derbyshire, I have just done a quick search al a google and there are actually rather a few snide references on there relating to her and her unfortunate initials. Same goes for Val Doonigan: "....can't believe his mum gave him VD", "....you can't beat a bit of VD", ".....VD is nothing to clap about" to quote a few.

Additionaly, at my DDs school, they have to have their first and last initial sewn onto the front of their sports kit. I certainly wouldn't want any of my DDs running about during sports fixtures/sports day, with VD emblazoned across their chests!

I would definitely say DON'T DO IT!

Sanjifair · 31/07/2013 07:09

DON'T DO IT.

I grew up with the initials VAD but of course the middle one got left out very often. Lots of piss taking, even as an adult. I was glad to get married and drop the initials.

There are so many nice names in the world, why lumber you child with initials that will potentially lead to life long mickey taking?

Neverdonethisbefore · 31/07/2013 08:04

Don't panic everyone, I've decided against inflicting these initials on new baby. Back the the name drawing board again.

I asked DS (20) about this and he looked blank. STI he said would be a different matter. Maybe it is a generational thing?!

Ihatepeas · 31/07/2013 09:20

I'm 31 and honestly don't think it's a problem.. Have never heard a Sti refered to as vd (apart from in Friends) However on reading all the other replies here I may of lead a sheltered existence! Grin
