Do you think this works?

Of course you can - nicknames can actually be unrelated to the name they derive from without going into convoluted explanations. I know a Boris who is actually a Laura!

If you think of all the shortenings of something like Margaret you can see how pretty much anything goes!

My dd's nn is totally different from her actual name, but that happened completely naturally and wasn't planned. I think Mimi comes fairly baturally from Hermione, but just looking for reassurance!

our's has actually grown into a ' H' or otherwise it's just 'My' or 'MyMy' as oppose to 'Me' or 'MeMe'

squoosh · 30/07/2013 11:05

You can if you decide you want to but it doesn't come naturally. There isn't a 'mee' sound in Hermione.

littlepeas · 30/07/2013 11:20

There is 'my' and 'nee' though, so it is nearly there! A friend of a friend, who I see occasionally, has a Hermione who is nicknamed Miney (which is more natural) so whilst I feel comfortable enough using the name, I feel I need to think of something different for short, otherwise I look like a big copy cat!

Could she be "Little My" as the My sound is in Hermione, like in the moomins?

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 30/07/2013 14:29

Yes, I think that would be cute and would work!

Mollie272 · 30/07/2013 17:35

I'd say go for it - I know a Mimi whose first name is actually Camilla, there isn't a "me" sound in that either and it works fine.

mathanxiety · 30/07/2013 17:52

I know a Mary who is Mimi and a Barney who is Brendan. I also know a Shorty who is 6'9". There are no rules about nicknames.

OrangeBlossom2 · 31/07/2013 10:19

Yes I think that works.

forevergreek · 31/07/2013 13:41

I know a Mimi who is Amy

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 31/07/2013 13:41

I think if you like Mimi call her that

I don't like Hermione, so I might be biased.

If you want a more grown-up full name, what about:

Marianne
Emily

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 31/07/2013 13:45

yes

Amelia > Mimi
Miranda
Miriam
Mischka
Melissa

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2013 13:46

Yes.

DD1 was nearly Miranda/Mimi. I'm really glad we didn't go for it now though, because of that awful comedienne person.

Hermione is lovely.

We call our Hermione Hermes for short but she's a cat Grin
