Lavender obviously as a girls name.

Should have learnt my lesson and not said a word as its the second time the grandmother has done this (first time was naming the puppy now its a kitten) so I'm back to the drawing board again. This time I'm not saying a bloody word when I've decided on the name.

I'd be a bit worried about it being shortened to Lav/Lavvy.

Can't you speak to your grandmother and get her to rename the kitten?

Its not my grandmother its the baby's. the grin she gave me when she told me is a good indication that it was intentional and won't be changed.

If she's done it on purpose to stop you using it, I'd carry on planning to use it and let her worry about the fact that they have the same name.

Most children would be delighted to have a cat named after them anyway.

I'd tell her you're still using it. Keep it up for a few weeks. See what happens

I quite like the name Lavender actually.
But given the issue with baby's gran, I would announce an absolutely terrible name you know she'll hate, and make it clear it was your 2nd choice you'll have to go with as she stole the 1st choice. Then maybe she will rename the cat...

I love Lavender but its one of those names i would realistically never use,plus i also dont like Lav.

Tempted to tell her I've finally decided on fenula but it was hard as choice numbers 1 and 2 got given to her bloody puppy then her kitten.
