Anna Serena or Serena Lucy

I've always loved the name Anna, Lucy is my wonderful sister and a family name, and the moment I found out I was pregnant I had a strong feeling that if it was a girl, she was Serena.
Surname begins with H so Anna Serena would spell ASH - I like this as it's a tree...

I love the name Serena, and also Lucy so Serena Lucy gets my vote! Anna is okay but Serena as a first name is a bit more 'special'. Although Serena Anna doesn't sound quite right, perhaps because of the 'na' at the end of both names (although I guess that's true the other way round too).

Anyway good luck whatever you decide, and if it is a DD!

Serena Lucy. Both pretty names. Too many A's on an's as pp said with Anna Serena.

whyno · 26/07/2013 11:38

Ooh two of the best names I've seen on here for a while.

Love both but would probably go for Anna Serena myself. I think...

WhatSheSaid · 26/07/2013 11:45

Anna Lucy :)

Thanks for the replies - it is helpful to talk it out to work out what I'm thinking... The too many A's thing doesn't bother me at all. I think it has a nice rhythm and as I'm a Spanish teacher, I like girls names ending in A, and one which work in many languages.
The problem I now realise, is more the 's' sound, as our surname has S in it. S is not as pretty a sound as A!
I love Anna Lucy, but it reminds me of Ana Lucia in Spanish, which is like the place Andalucia!
Well, it might be a boy, and boys names are much more difficult I think!

Both are nice but I prefer Anna Serena, although it does remind me of Anna Karenina!

ch1134 · 26/07/2013 16:09

I remember reading the book a few years ago and thinking what a great, timeless name it was! I think I'm sold on Anna Serena... although I'm 50% sure it's a boy!! thanks for the comments

I prefer Anna Serena. Sounds lovely

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 26/07/2013 17:15

Although Anna is lovely, Serena is a more interesting first name, IMO

BlueStarsAtNight · 26/07/2013 19:52

I prefer Serena Lucy as the too many A's and ending the same would bother me, but they are both really pretty so whichever it is will be a good choice

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper · 26/07/2013 20:23

I much prefer Serena to Anna.

wigglesrock · 26/07/2013 20:30

I have 3 daughters, all of whose names end in "a" Smile . The youngest is Anna. Hands down I've had more nice comments about it than the other 2.

It's a beautiful name, the strange thing is that it never occured to me when I had dd1 and dd2 to use it as a name, but when I was pregnant with dd3, I had Anna picked out really early.

hurricanemum · 26/07/2013 20:43

I have an Anna so am biased. Anna Serena (ser-ee-na or ser-en-a????) reminds me of Anna Karenina as PP says but I don't think that's a problem. Lucy is a lovely and rather underused name as is Anna so win win!

Wbdn28 · 26/07/2013 22:53

Serena Lucy, definitely. Serena is quite unusual as a first name and Lucy is very pretty too.

Anna Serena is too sing-songy. Reminds me of Anna Karenina and Ave Maria.

Wbdn28 · 26/07/2013 22:54

Or you could make Luciana from Lucy and Anna? Serena Luciana?

sweetiepie1979 · 26/07/2013 22:59

Oh dear a bit too much like anna karenina. And that's sad.

GW297 · 26/07/2013 23:04

Reminds me of Anna Karenina too!

Mollie272 · 27/07/2013 10:05

I have an Anna too - I love it. Her middle name is May.

cavell · 27/07/2013 11:15

Serena Lucy.

Anna is a very pretty name, but "Anna Serena" sounds like a psychological syndrome to me, I'm afraid. "You'll have to excuse my husband - he's got annaserena".

nooka · 27/07/2013 18:28

I don't like the sound of the double a, so prefer Serena Lucy but you've already said that doesn't bother you. If you like the sound of both Anna and Serena how about Susannah?

NowPlayingZone · 27/07/2013 20:15

Serena Lucy has the edge for me.

Layl77 · 27/07/2013 20:18

Anna serena sounds lovely!

ch1134 · 27/07/2013 21:10

Yes, with our surname Anna Serena wins. I just think Anna has a lovely sound and is classic, strong and timeless. Serena is how I feel, and I think they sound beautiful together. Then I can keep Lucy for a future child if I'm really lucky. If someone told me their husband had annaserena I'd worry he'd kidnapped a child!

Also, middle names are almost never actually used, so I'm not too worried. I don't have one, and if we have a boy he won't have one either.
