Baby names

It's very early days but DP and I already have very clear thoughts on baby names. We agree on Flynn for a boy but are battling it out over girl's names.
He wants Luna (after his favourite Harry Potter character) and I want Arya (after my favourite Game of Thrones character). I've said I'll accept Luna as a middle name but he's being stubborn. Both names fit us as people (I am Pagan, he's a geek) and have nice meanings (Luna meaning moon and Arya meaning noble/trustworthy/air).
We already have a Logan, Rowan, Keeley and Mason (and if anyone who knows us is on here I have just outed myself, hi!) but I don't know which would be the best fit.

Love Luna. Short and sweet and simple. Easy to pronounce. Whereas I feel Arya can easily be misspelt and mispronounced.

Firstly, I love Flynn. Would have named my son that but it happened to be the name of my (disappeared, deadbeat) dad so I couldn't Sad

Luna is a beautiful name. Arya sounds a bit too close to Aryan/that whole lot for comfort- a beautiful name though. What about Aria- similar, still has a beautiful meaning but not with the uncomfortable connections? Luna sounds cheerful and bright and seems to go well with the others. Arianna? I like that you are naming them after favourite characters- it's unusual and gives it a special meaning.

Maybe Maisie- the name of Arya's actor? Or Talisa? (Nn Tally/Lizzie/Alli).

Also Catelyn (obvs) and maybe Lysa, Selyse, Yara. Meera, Doreah, Roslin, Olenna (love this name!) .

Okay, most of those aren't suitable names for a child, but some might be?

I love Flynn and now stealing it for my own list :)

I'm not hugely keen on Luna. I don't think kids will automatically call the poor thing Lunatic but think Alana or Lena are far prettier (almost) comparable names. I wouldn't worry about TV programme names unless they're blatantly made up.

Sorry you've had so much stick about your other kids names. I love the name Logan, same with Mason. I told someone I wanted to call my baby Tabitha and they told me I was cruel and it was awful. I've stopped asking others - going to use it anyway as I love it!

xx

I wouldn't choose either Luna or Aria.

I actually think that Luna is lovely, but Lunatic/Looney would be inevitable, imo.

How is Arya pronounced? Air-ia or Ar-ia? (Not a huge GoT fan- sorry!)

For what it's worth, I think it's a beautiful name either way. I think both are a bit more 'out there' than your other dc's names but I think that's just because I know a Logan, two Rowans, a Keeley and a Mason. Contrary to what some of the other rude people have said, I think they're all lovely.

I like Luna but it's the name of my best friend's dog which is the only reason I'm put off!

We must have similar taste! I started a thread the other day about Luna and Arya is my favourite game of thrones character so I love both! Plus my name is Keely (so thanks to the person who said Keeley was f*ing awful! or maybe Keely is better? lol)

I think Luna goes best with the nature of your other DC's names xx

I love all of them, have several of them on my 'list' but, being German, also have reservations about Arya - it brings up bad associations (even though my first thought is actually of opera!). It's also becoming very popular, at least in the US, because of GoT so it might become quite common in her age group.

I'd never call a DC after any TV character. Remember the flurry of Tiffanies, Charlenes, Tegans etc?

Arya.. Ehm no.
I just had a conversation in my head.

Hi what's your name.
Arya.
Am I what? (Confused look)
You asked my name, Arya.

I did ask your name, so what is it.
Arya.
AM I WHAT?

Oh FFS, I give up.

I'd pick Luna too.

I think they are both lovely. Arya slightly ahead for me but they are both lovely names.

It doesn't matter if the Aryans were originally a Middle Eastern race, a lot of people will hear the name and think 'white supremacists'.

I love ike Arya and Luna. Nowt wrong with a Potter reference (secretly LOVE the name Ginny!) And Arya reminds me of a Mozart Aria and generally has a nice musical quality to it.
Just throwing in a random name here, but Astrid?

Arianna could be a decent compromise - I like all your DC's names btw.

I prefer Arya to Luna.

Arya is Ah-ya which is nothing to do with Aryan as in Air-ee-an.

OP I know someone with a daughter named Arya, she must be over a year old now. Nothing but compliments.

Also my dp is a historian, specialising in WWII and didn't connect Arya to Nazism/White Supremisicm.

Wendy isn't a made up name. It was popularised by JMBarrie, but was first recorded in the 1880s, 20 years before Peter Pan was published.

I prefer Luna to Arya btw.

How about Lyra from the Philip Pulman books? Not so popular as GOT, (which I started reading over 10 years ago, can't believe how popular they are!)
