how would you pronounce it?

also worried it doesnt 'go' with DD1's name - Sophie

thoughts?

other suggestions from DH include Payton and Stephanie (because he likes short circuit Hmm )

my preferences are Eden (which he vetoed) or Georgia (which we had agreed on but now I am unsure)

help!

I'd pronounce it Keer-a.

Pretty name, very popular in Ireland.

I think it would be nice with Sophie, as would Georgia.

Scruffey · 23/07/2013 17:04

I would pronounce it kee ar uh like the italian. I know from reading the thread that I am wrong with this, but most people who meet your dd won't have read the thread!

I think Georgia goes better with Sophie anyway.

Keer-a

Twirlyhot · 23/07/2013 18:23

Not keen on Georgia.

StiffGandT · 23/07/2013 18:41

It's a popular name in Scotland, pronounced Kee-ra

MotherOfNations · 23/07/2013 18:49

Kee-ds. It's a name I used to love but here in Glasgow it seems like every second little girl is calke Ciara.

MotherOfNations · 23/07/2013 18:51

Don't know what happened there. Keera obviously.

mrsyattering · 23/07/2013 19:02

kee ra ....female to Ciaran (kee ran)

TotallyEggFlipped · 23/07/2013 20:30

mrsyattering - I once worked with a male Ciara. He was American, but his parents were Irish, so should've known better.

arabesque · 24/07/2013 12:44

It's an Irish name so pleeeese if you use it, pronounce it properly (Kee-ra).
It's been incredibly popular here in Ireland for the last fifteen years or so but is beginning to go out of fashion now.

qumquat · 24/07/2013 18:38

I'd pronounce it the same as Keira - it's the original Irish version of the name. I teach in Catholic school and teach lots of little Ciaras, it would never occur to me to pronounce it differently.

qumquat · 24/07/2013 18:39

Ciara (pronounced the Irish way) is much nicer than all of your other options IMHO!

rockybalboa · 24/07/2013 18:39

It's definitely one of those names people would mispronounce. I'd go for Kiera or Cara. I love love love Cara and Clara for that matter and think both go really well with Sophie.
