I like this name but not sure what people will think. Help!

No,I don't particularly care if others think so either...
It's top of my list for this baby Smile

frogwatcher42 · 22/07/2013 17:20

Yes I would immediately think of marg. But does it matter as long as you like it!?

HorrorCow · 22/07/2013 17:23

I think of Flora MacDonald. Although if her sister was called Clover, I might start to wonder.

Bowlersarm · 22/07/2013 17:24

No, I wouldn't think of margarine. I would think a lovely little girls name.

NoComet · 22/07/2013 17:24

I just wonder if she has a sibling called Fauna.

YeahBuddy · 22/07/2013 17:25

It makes me think of the marg, but once people get to know her they will stop associating it. I went to school with a girl called Floren which is a mix of Flora and Erin (her parents couldn't decide so mixed the two apparently) but I think it's quite a nice alternative to Flora.

pictish · 22/07/2013 17:25

It was my mother's name, and I love it.

imademarion · 22/07/2013 17:25

No. Feisty Jilly Cooper heroine, which might put some off!

I think it's absolutely beautiful.

yummymumtobe · 22/07/2013 17:26

No I don't. It's a lovely name. Come to think of it, haven't seen flora marg in the shops much recently?

yummymumtobe · 22/07/2013 17:26

Medlers22 · 22/07/2013 17:27

My daughter is called Flora and no one even mentions marg!

Neverdonethisbefore · 22/07/2013 17:28

Oooh I'd forgotten about the Jilly Cooper books.

I am pleased that marg isn't the first thing that springs to mind for some of you. The name is in my top 5 and I'm really tempted to use it this time around.

I love love love this name, but it was vetoed by DH Angry. I think of Flora MacDonald before the margarine, but maybe that's because I'm Scottish. Either way, use it please - it's a gorgeous name Smile

Yika · 22/07/2013 17:35

Flora is a beautiful name, I'd never think of marg. Anyway, Marge being a girl's name too you could always adopt it as a nn.

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/07/2013 18:03

Yes.

PoppyWearer · 22/07/2013 18:05

No, Flora is a lovely name.

shineypeacock · 22/07/2013 18:06

Love it!!! Going to be this bumps name if its a pink one!

Witt · 22/07/2013 18:08

I think it's a really nice name. I knew a Flora at school and she was lovely. Had it on my list but DH vetoed.

NobodyPutsTomArcherInTheCorner · 22/07/2013 18:10

It's such a pretty name but sorry yes, that blimmin marg is what I think of before I mentally edit it out in annoyance with myself.

Stella similary tainted imho.

I do wish they would take nice names and use them for food/drinks etc.

QuiteContent · 22/07/2013 18:14

I love the name Flora, but it was a cruel nickname bestowed upon girls who were known for their 'friendliness' and that kind of ruined it as a name for me.

I will always love the prettiness of the name but round our way the promiscuous girls will always be known as Flora = Spreads easily.

Neverdonethisbefore · 22/07/2013 18:28

Hmmmm, I'd not heard of that nickname. I'm struggling to convince DH that it's nice and also Stella too. Might have to shelve them for when we get a dog!

Might be a local thing Neverdonethisbefore, but it's lasted through the years and still is heard to day. Friend of mine has a daughter called Florrie which is, to me at least, a very cute name.

LittlePandaBear · 22/07/2013 19:32

Makes me think of flowers, so nice!

As long as her middle name isn't 'Buttery' or 'Light' Grin

BackforGood · 22/07/2013 19:37

Yes, I do, I'm afraid. Sorry.

JellyWellyWoo · 22/07/2013 19:42

I love this name, although sadly I do briefly think of margarine. I think It's a very pretty name regardless and as long as you love it that's really all that matters! :)
