Jack, Isaac, Joseph or other suggestions

This is our current shortlist...

Jack - I love and it goes great with middle name of David and surname. However, there would be about five of them in baby's class at school as it is the most popular boy's name in my area at the moment. I like the idea of calling him Jackson and shortening to Jack as it makes it a bit different, but DP isn't keen.

Isaac - really love the name as it's not common around here but is quite traditional. However, it doesn't roll off the tongue as easy as I'd like with our accent. Also I know my parents hate it :(.

Joseph - nice middle ground name and I like Joe for short, but I don't LOVE it like I do the other two.

Any suggestions?

Aaahhhh, glad you posted about the Jack dilemma! I'm in the same boat, dc3 I think will have to be Jack to honour my much loved and missed late dad, he passed away just before dd was born. The only thing is the popularity! I am thinking tho that they will be my Jack or your Jack and they'll only ever be one of them iykwim.

My son has a top 10 name and I don't regret it as I love it and again it's a family name.

I reckon go with Jack, he'll be the only one in your life!

Jack and Joe very very popular, but lovely (if you don't mind your son being one of several in the class!0

Isaac is nice too.

Other similar (biblical) names:

Seth
Nathanial (Nate)
Ethan
Jacob (Jake)
Noah
Samuel
Luke
CAleb
Jude

Jack has been in the top few boys names for years. Jackson is worse IMHO. Jack is traditionally "short" for John, if that would be an option?

Isaac is a classic, or how about Zachary? Joseph very nice as well. If you like Old Testament names how about Saul, Eli, Amos, David, Aaron, Adam, Reuben, Levi, Jonah?

babyhmummy01 · 14/07/2013 20:15

Jack was always top of my list for a boy, unfortunately DP's son is called Zack so couldn't use it.

If you like traditional names what about

Henry
John
James
Andrew
Josh

Devora · 14/07/2013 20:33

They are all rally nice. Joseph Isaac or Joel Isaac sere my top choices if i had a boy (which I didnt)

SilverBirdie · 14/07/2013 20:56

So many more Alfies, Finns and Harrys at the mo than Jacks. I bet in the next couple of years it slips further down the top ten list so I would use it if you love it!

Gerty1002 · 15/07/2013 07:58

hawk I know what you mean, just wouldn't like him to grow up resenting that he was one of five in the class. It's a toughie!

silver Like I say in my area Jack seems more popular than those names - I know of three babies with it just from people I have on facebook.

I'm not really too fussed on other biblical names, I like Jacob and Adam has also been considered.

I absolutely LOVE the names William and Matthew (although I don't like Matt or Matty, but I'd just use the full name) - but DP isn't keen :(

I love Jackson. Also, what about Justin or Jefferson?

Gerty1002 · 15/07/2013 08:35

trapezegirl They sound rather American, which I'm not too keen on tbh.

Just spoke to DP and he's coming around to the idea of William or Matthew :)

All your names are lovely. I would use Jack as you love it so much. Bear in mind William will also be very popular at the moment x

sleepingbeautiful · 15/07/2013 17:19

They are all nice. I would be put off Jack by how popular it is though. I disliked being known as Name.Initial at school.
I like Isaac because he will have Ike and Zac options too.
What about Luke?

Gerty1002 · 16/07/2013 09:55

BetterToLaugh If you're referring to Prince William I don't think that will have much of an impact up here in the North - not so many royalists. At least not in my town.

Had a good chat about names with DP last night and we have a new list, which we'll pick from when baby arrives:

Matthew
William
Jack
Isaac
Joseph
Adam

Thanks for all your suggestions :)
