Love the name Bea but husband is not keen on Beatrice (its a personal bad association with someone he disliked)...are there any other options?

Its ok if they are not so obvious. I met a Balen which I liked but not sure works not being spanish.

please suggest other names

Beatrix?

elliephant · 13/07/2013 19:55

Brigit and all it's variations and Elizabeth

mothermirth · 13/07/2013 19:57

Phoebe

Hassled · 13/07/2013 19:59

Sorry - but I think the vast majority of people would assume Beatrice. She would have a lifetime of explaining/contradicting ahead of her.

elliephant · 13/07/2013 19:59

It is also a name in it's own right

Ruprekt · 13/07/2013 20:02

Belinda

Annabel.....Belle.....Bea

bumbleandbumble · 13/07/2013 20:04

I have a friend bea. Full name Beatrice.

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/07/2013 20:06

How about Beata? I think it means 'blessed'

justhayley · 13/07/2013 20:07

Yeah I know a Bea who's just Bea. I also know a Phoebe who's known as Bea

CountBapula · 13/07/2013 20:08

I have a friend called Bee. It's short for Abigail.

WhoNickedMyName · 13/07/2013 20:09

I know a Bea and her full name is Beatrix.

outingmyselfprobably · 13/07/2013 20:16

Beyoncé!!

EduCated · 13/07/2013 20:18

Ruby?

throughgrittedteeth · 13/07/2013 20:31

My sister is known as bea and her name is Bethany.

Surf25 · 13/07/2013 20:33

Beth - we very nearly used this for dd2 and I would have had bea as a nn. One of my closest friends is Beth (short for Elizabeth) but often signs herself B and I often call her Bea. I love it!

Fwiw I wouldn't assume that Bea was Beatrice, but Beatrice is very uncommon where I am and perhaps that is why. don't get me wrong, it's a fine name, just don't come across it much!

Surf25 · 13/07/2013 20:33

Oops posted too soon, meant to say you could have Bethany or Elizabeth too!

TenToWine · 13/07/2013 20:36

My neice phoebe sometimes gets Be. I also know a Bee ( full name).

Wbdn28 · 13/07/2013 21:43

I agree everyone will assume it's short for Beatrice.

steppemum · 13/07/2013 21:50

might depend if you want to pronounce it Bee or Be-a

SanityClause · 13/07/2013 21:56

I know an Eloise who's called Bea......

SoggySummer · 13/07/2013 21:56

Brigit is pronounced Bridge-it

devonsmummy · 13/07/2013 22:15

I know a Bryony called Bea
I think any name beginning with B could get away with the nickname / shortening Bea
Just like many boys with names that start with J, i.e.. Jamie, Jason, James get called Jay

goldenlula · 13/07/2013 22:26

I know a Bethany who is called 'Bee', but it could as easily be 'Bea'.

Alisvolatpropiis · 13/07/2013 23:46

Behati?

It's the Afrikaans form of Beatrice
