Is it weird to call a girl April if she's not born in April?

Or any month name really? Do they have to match their birth month? I would feel kind of strange calling our daughter April if she was born in October, DH thinks it would be "naff" to have them match.
Just wondered what the general consensus was. :)

i think april is a sufficiently long standing name, as well as a month, that it doesn't need to match. there was a thread the other day about calling a baby summer who was born in winter...

when i saw it i think it was about 50/50... BUT i kind of think of april as being a more traditional name that is somehow separate from the month name, whereas summer is a bit of a new one... i have a friend called april who is late 30s and her birthday isn't in april, and it never occurred to me that it might be...

I think it's fine to use it any time. Either way, she'll be asked "is it because you have an April birthday" quite often. The only difference it makes is whether the answer each time is yes or no!

i have a cousin April who i have rarely seen. When i was a teen and she was about 5/6yr, i either hadnt met her before or hadnt for years, cant remember. Anyway, i was asking her questions and then i said when is your birthday and she said April and i was like 'oh doh! of course it is'. so upon hearing her name i didnt automatically think her birthday was then, but after i found out it was, i felt so daft asking such an 'obvious' question. i dont think it needs to match. i think Autumn should be born in the Autumn though.

I know an April who was born in June.

I've never met a month named person who wasn't born in that month (although I have met someone with May as a middle name but she was very late so ended up being born in June after the parents were definitely decided on names)

I also know an autumn-born Summer which I don't find odd.

People will just assume her birthday is in April. I don't think there's too much wrong with it.

I don't think so. April is a name in ist own right now I think, same applies to May or June.

May is seen as a name separate from the month all the time, and I think June and April could be too, I love Avril, the french version, and I don't think that would be connected with the calendar at all.

Were all the little Eve/Evie and Dawns around born at dawn or dusk?

I think the names can be separated from the birth month (or season) of birth: it is the qualities associated with the time of year which are being invoked, I reckon.

My mum is a 'June' and she was born in April, even the other way round it's not weird IMO

I want June for my September baby but I have the same worry! No advice but reading with interest...

I don't think names such as April, May and June have to match the months. April is a sweet name and if you both like it, go with it. (Same with May and June) I think they are all quite strong, traditional names.

Didn't you tell everyone about the baby in April? Won't that do?

My nephew named his September-born son August. That's the first time I've ever met someone with a "month" name that wasn't born in that month!
