Alexander or Archie?

That's it really! Grin

DS1 is due on Tuesday and I'm having last minute naming wobbles! DH and I really struggled to come up with a boy's name (his working title is Baby Dave!) It was hard to find something that we agreed on and that also goes well with the girls' names, but Alexander seemed to fit well. (DD1 is Gabriella and DD2 is Sophia) However, I was looking at a name book the other day and came across Archie, which I now really, really love! I'm not normally keen on shortened versions of names on birth certificates but I really like it and wouldn't use the longer Archibald at all. Alexander would be known as Alex though.

What are your thoughts ladies? Smile

Definitely Alexander. I have a Gabriela and Luisa, DS is Alessandro, which is Alexander in Italian, although we use Valentino (his second name), shortened to Tino.

Where do you all live?! We have an Archie and nobody had ever heard of one until we named him!

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/07/2013 21:48

I've met one Archie. He must be 40 now. His actual name is Archibald. Used to play professional ice hockey for Cardiff Devils.

I may yet have a son named Archer,Archie for short. As I've mentioned above I can't ever use Alexander unless DP and I split (hope not!).

Alexander.

All time favourite boys name. Which is why my 5 year old is called it. Grin

I love Archie but agree that it is over used. I have an Alfie. When I chose it I had only ever read about one now they're everywhere. I wish I had chosen something timeless. I would go with Alexander.

smiales01 · 14/07/2013 07:43

My brother is Alexander and lots of us call him Zan which I love. To mum he's Alexander which also is lovely and his wife calls him Alex so lots of choice x

Alexander. I have come across lots of Archies but hardly any Alexanders - just a couple of Alexs (one boy, one girl)

IsItMeOr · 14/07/2013 07:55

But Downstairs, Alexander is also an old traditional name (remember Alexander the Great...?).

I think the use of names clearly varies a lot by area. Archie/Alfie seems popular around South London.

I think Alexander goes with your daughters' names much better than Archie does. Have you considered Alexis?

Graceparkhill · 14/07/2013 11:31

I like Akexander esp shortened to Sandy!

Graceparkhill · 14/07/2013 11:40

That would be Alexander obv. Sun shining in eyes making it hard to see ( stealth boast).

othersideofchannel · 14/07/2013 20:56

Alexander/Alex is much nicer and more elegant than Archibald/Archie!

LittleNutTree · 21/07/2013 21:05

Just coming back to update, (because it annoys me when it doesn't happen on other threads! Grin) Alexander James Archie was born on Friday and he's completely gorgeous, even though I do say so myself! Thanks to everyone who replied Smile

I like both, but Alexander is by far my favourite. It really suits the sisters names too.

HahaHarrie · 22/07/2013 13:53

Congrats OP! Can't believe I didn't see you update post! Good choice!

OrlaNuttin · 22/07/2013 16:45

Just coming on to say def Alexander, but then I see it's too late!

Congrats, lovely name (I have an Alexander James) x

Kittykatmacbill · 22/07/2013 18:25

Alexander! Its so much nicer, I think all the nn are nice but Alec and sandie are both great! I think Archie is a bit over used but if you did properly and went with Archibald that would be a differant matter!

Serenity6 · 23/07/2013 10:06

Congrats on your baby boy. I love his name :)
