Jamie for a baby boy

I love the name Jamie but I read somewhere that it is a bit chavvy...(i hope not). Any thoughts on this?

surely James nn Jamie so he has a choice when he's older- I think Jamie could be a bit twee on a grown man and that's who you are naming really.

I have a Jamie and it remains my favoourite name. Short for James in our case which is what appears on b.cert. He's always been Jamie, though.

Dh wanted to name ds Jamie, I agreed as long as we put him down as James on his birth certificate. I love both James and Jamie but I'm glad that officially he is James.

I don't think that Jamie is a chavvy name.

But if you're worried about that, put James on the birth certificate and use Jamie as a nickname.

Youngest dc is Jamie. He suits it. I haven't ever considered that it might be chavvy. Is it on a certain Ms Katie Hopkins list of kids her dc are not allowed to play with?
It's a lovely name, I've only known of two other Jamie's and they have been delightful.

I love James too but very unfortunately it does not go so well with our surname...we have an unusual non brittish surname starting with 2 consonants....:( and James ending with an s is a bit too much. I feel that it is easier to say Jamie + surname in one go....thanks for all the advice so far!

Good Scottish name is Jamie. I know 3 and for all of them that's the name on their birth certificate,

Oh, and two of them are adults and there's nothing twee about them.

Lol @thefirstmrsrochester. I don't think Jamie is on the "K Hopkins list" yet...but i don't care for her opinion anyway....I am come from Europe and I thought that I would run this past MN. Thanks for all the comments.

I like it! We're in Scotland where it is a well known name for men. Not chavvy at all. :-)

Just plain Jamie (and not James, nickname Jamie) seems Scottish to me. I know a few Jamies who are Scottish and not at all "Chavvy". I really like it. However my brother is called James, was known as Jamie til he was about 10 or 11 and prefers the fact he has more options with the full name James than if he had been just Jamie.

I personally like James more, but all the Jamies I know are actually adults and not very chavvy at all, so I don't really see the problem there.

I really hate Jamie but love James.

I think it's too babyish on a grown man, even living in Scotland and knowing lots of adult ones.

I like it and no I don't think it's "chavvy". Know loads of adult Jamies and certainly isn't babyish where I come from (SE england).

I have a James who's known as James or Jamie pretty much interchangeably. Now it appears that two of my children's names are chavvy? Confused. Dd is Lauren, that is seemingly on the chav's list too...
