Are you sad for the names you didn't get to use?

Was thinking about this after reading the Anna thread.

When we had dd we had a boy name and a girl name.

We used the boy name when dc2 turned out to be a boy.

So as we didn't find out the sex we have a girls name that was earmarked for dc2 if a girl which I am kind of in mourning for.

Just keep on having kids but find out gender so no name left over? Get a dog and use the name? Just get over it?

Anyone else morning for the name they didn't get to use?

Yes I felt a bit like that for a while. I've got over it now.

I was desperate to use the name I would have used for dd (dc2) if she's been a boy, hoped for a boy when pregnant with dc3 so I could use it, had a boy, called him something totally different Grin.

Two DSs and had such a lovely DD name. Would have 'given' it to DSis she looks unlikely to sprog at all. Might work for a horse ...

Yes.

I will never get to use James or Alexander because they are the names of my DP's utter fuckwit brother.

Makes me feel ill just thinking of him being under the deluded impression we had named our son after him.

I have 3 boys, didn't find out the gender any time, and had the same 2 possible girls names each pregnancy (spanning 11 years) Not having any more now so slightly sad that the names won't be used here, but always feel the need to tell parents with those named girls what lovely names they are!

No it never occurred to me to feel sad.

I'd picked some girls names but never had girls and I had a couple of spare boys ones.

Yes, I was convinced DC2 would be a boy named Digory John. I have a beautiful DD instead but I know she is my last baby.

Can one of you lot have a little dark haired Digory for me please?Grin

Yes. I need to get a dog called Bruno.

Although realistically it will probably be a male guinea pig. With maybe a female called Prudence.

Oh I like Bruno too.

Um, a little. But with hindsight, it wasmt the greatest name in the world anyway.
And I have dropped the name into conversation a few years down the line with the kids, and none of them liked it!
