I like them all. Sophia is my favourite.

PrincessOfChina · 04/07/2013 21:55

I prefer Elizabeth. Lots of nickname possibilities.

Sophia and Emily are pretty dull to me.

Wishfulmakeupping · 04/07/2013 21:56

Elizabeth

rundontwalk · 04/07/2013 21:59

Elizabeth, then Sophia. Emily is inoffensive but wouldn't be on my list.

Mrsindecision · 04/07/2013 22:05

Sophia
Elizabeth

Emily

Sophia is my DD's name so I love it. Elizabeth is classic and so pretty. Emily also lovely, very popular at mo.

Beamur · 04/07/2013 22:06

I like them all.
My order of preference would be Elizabeth, Sophia then Emily.

marinka458 · 04/07/2013 22:24

Thanks for your comments girls, any more? How would you pronounce Eliza? Like Elizabeth (ee) or like Liza (eye) Minelli? :)

Sophia is my favourite, then Emily.

Not so keen on Elizabeth.

marinka458 · 04/07/2013 22:26

Can you also say why you prefer one name over the other, please?

All lovely, but I like Emily best. My DD - age 3 is called Emily and it is my favourite girls' name - I only have one daughter.

HarumScarum · 04/07/2013 22:44

Elizabeth is classic and classy.

Emily is mid-90s and a bit dull.

Sophia is what people call their daughters if they liked Sophie but didn't want three in the class (but it won't make any difference because there probably still will be).

marinka458 · 04/07/2013 22:57

HarumScarum, that's very to the point :)

All, how about between Sophie and Elizabeth?

They are all lovely. I think Sophia best for me. I find it pretty, feminine, strong and for some reason I really am unsure on Sophie, but love Sophia. I find them very different, oddly!

Elizabeth IMO is quite old fashioned and I don't like the sounds. I like Libby, but hate Lizzie or Eliza. I find the z sound sharp. I also dislike Beth as I find it quite a harsh sound.

Emily, I like this, but it is very commonly used. It just seems a dull option.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 04/07/2013 23:04

I have a Sophia, we didnt realise quite how popular it was when we chose it 7 months ago. It just wasnt on our radar until she was born.

Now both Sophia and Sophie seem to be everywhere.

Emily and Elizabeth are both lovely. I love Eliza pronounced like Eliza Minelli, I also like Beth.

Similar names, Eleanor Charlotte Emme (with the accent on the e)

formicadinosaur · 04/07/2013 23:11

All lovely. Emily I have a soft spot for BUT Elizabeth can have so many fab nicknames including my fave Betty or betsy.

Elquota · 05/07/2013 00:33

Sophia is an elegant-sounding name with a lovely meaning "wisdom". Emily could suit any age. Elizabeth is rather staid and dull compared to the other two.

PeriodMath · 05/07/2013 00:35

I like Emily best.

Sophia is a bit faddy and very now. Sophie far better.

Leeds2 · 05/07/2013 00:36

Elizabeth
Emily
Sophia
Sophie

Mrsindecision · 05/07/2013 07:11

PeriodMath, I'm not quite sure how a name of an early Christian martyr that has been popular since the Middle Ages and used throughout the Western World by many including Royalty can be described as "faddy"?

Umlauf · 05/07/2013 07:13

Emily is my favourite girls name ever. Elizabeth is really nice with lots of good nicknames, Sophia I'm not so keen on, I prefer Sophie.

FetaCheeny · 05/07/2013 08:35

Elizabeth is my fave, so many lovely
nn's. my fave nn would be Beth. I find Sophia and Emily a bit dull but out of the two I'd probably vote Emily as I detest the nn Soph!

Yonihadtoask · 05/07/2013 08:41

I like them all.

Depends on the surname. I wouldn't choose Elizabeth with a long surname.

TalkativeJim · 05/07/2013 08:52

Sophia top choice

Elizabeth and Emily both a long way below!

Reasons: I've always really liked Sophie/Sophia. Classic, pretty, and with a slight European air about it - a bit like Anna. Of course that's just personal preference! I think it's an intelligent sounding name.

Have never liked Emily. I think it sounds prim and proper and a bit boring.

Have also never liked Elizabeth, although I can see that it's a good, classic, versatile name. I think it's because to me (child of the 70s) it was one of the go-to middle names - everyone I knew either had Louise, Sarah or Elizabeth as a middle name, after Helen/Debbie/Lisa etc.!!

PrincessKitKat · 05/07/2013 09:15

I love Elizabeth & the name can mature with your DD if she wants - Ellie might choose to be a Beth when she's older etc.
Emily is lovely but a bit meh.
All names ending in 'a' are a no-no for me - living so close to Birmingham they come out with a harsh 'ya' at the end not 'a'
