Is Scarlett chavvy? And Rhys too Welsh?

I'm trying to find a nice oldfashioned name for boy and girl but my husband is French and we live in France so I need to have a Uk view on the names Scarlett and Rhys. Am I totally off track or would they work?
Our other children are called Miles and Abigail.
We're also looking at Rose and Ruby or Scott and Edgar.
I'm having so much trouble I need your help!

I like Scarlett. Rhys doesn't do much for me. Edgar is nice and I am v fond of Scott (but most people on here hate it).

I like Scarlett but won't consider it for my daughter as I think you would need to be a 'character' to carry it off, if you know what I mean?
I'm not a huge fan of Rhys, but I think it complements your other DCs names quite nicely.

Scarlet, rose and Scott I think are lovely.
Edgar makes me think of aristocats film from Disney.
But I think the most important thing is that you choose a name you like, that sits well with you and that you feel will suit baby. Forget what's common, chavvy, over used etc. if you like it, have it.
Two of our ds we planned to be a certain name but neither ds's suited it.
Sometimes you just have to go with the flow.

I love ruby & Edgar of your choices & think they work best with your other dc's names.

Don't dislike the others, but agree Rhys is v welsh & I'm really bored of Rose.

We have a Scarlett and nearly everyone comments on how lovely her name is ...honestly. I am obviously massively biased but I definitely don't think it's chavvy..... I've not come across any others either so usually a good sign that it isn't being over used by chavs!!!!

I think all the names you are looking at are lovely.

I like your boys names, not Sure Rhys would work for you.

I would choose Miles and something like Louise or Marianne

Madeline woukd work, Ithink.

I don't like Scarlett (but I think I'm unusual in disliking it as it is popular) I can't get past 'scar' and with the 'et' sound at the end all I think of is a 'little scar'

Ruby, Rose and Rhys are all very nice :)

I don't like Scarlett, to me its quite harsh and its getting a chavvy reputation. Ruby would be a no no simply as most classes have at least 1-2 with that name. It's no way as nice as Abigail. What about Martha? Anna? Nancy? Violet?

Edgar is ok, don't like Scott at all sorry.

I love Rhys! It would have been my DS's name if it wasn't for the fact that it is my DB's name! So we used it as a middle name instead

Edgar is lovely and goes really well with Miles and Abigail imo. Rose also.

Rhys is nice too.

Scott is dated.

Ruby is very popular and I don't think it fits well with your other names.

Scarlett I would not choose. It's not in the same league as Miles and Abigail.

Miles and Abigail would not go with Scarlett at all.
How can an obviously Welsh name sound 'too Welsh'

Agree that Scarlett and Rhys do not 'go' with sibling names. How about Celeste, Zara, Emilie, Julia, Henry, Edward, Oliver or Charles?

Thanks so much for the feedback guys. It's true that it's hard to find something that suits the other sibbling names, that's pronouncable for French people yet sticks out as not being French. The kids have a very French surname so I want the English first name to make it clear they're half and half.

Scarlett was a great name, when the only person who had it was Scarlett O'Hara. IMO it's now been devalued through over-use. Kind of like how Ava was a gorgeous name when Gardner was your association; not so much any more...

Miles and Abigail are great names - I don't think Scarlett, Ruby nor Scott go with them.

Edgar does, though it's not to my taste.

I like the names you've already given your children, but not your short list names at all. Weird that they're so different!

I don't think Scarlett is chavvy as such but it is/was currently popular with people from all walks of life except perhaps the perceived higher realms of society (whoever they are). Personally I wouldn't say chavvy (but I wouldn't say chavvy anyway but it's not, um posh. (I struggled to make this sentence diplomatci for a while but gave up in the end).

PS Scarlett is also not old fashioned in the way that you mean which is classically old-fashioned. Although it is an old name (at least 1930s Gone with the wind) it isn't, and won't ever be, considered old fashioned in a classic kind of way.

My suggestion is Margot. Lovely with Miles and Abigail I think and sits well with both English & French. And how about Alexander for a boy? I like Scott but it's the male version of Scarlett and I don't think that's what you are really aiming for.

You're right that our shortlist seem different to my other children's names. We're finding it hard to find names on a par.
I like Margot and Charles and lots of your other duggestions but hubby doesn't. He's no easy one to please!!I loved Martha too, then my sister went and named her baby that!
Hubby likes Stella too but I'm not convinced on that.

If you say Scarlett with a French accent, isn't the sound pretty similar to "Charlotte"?
