Does Zara go with Vivienne for twins?

Still looking for a name for twin 2. I really love the name Zara, and despite reservations because of the clothing shop I keep coming back to it. Somehow I think it sounds stronger and more fresh with Vivienne Gray (twin 1's name) than do our other choices like Felicity and Philippa.

Thoughts? Middle name possibilities?

Really nice twin names. Much better than 'matching' names.

VBisme · 20/06/2013 23:13

Much prefer Philippa.

Raaraathenoisybaby · 20/06/2013 23:15

Zara and Vivienne sounds great. Felicity and Philipa is twee. Sorry.

BeaWheesht · 20/06/2013 23:15

Aren't 2 of Brangelinas kids called Vivienne and Zara? Not sure.

What about Vivienne and genevieve? Or Vivienne and Meredith?

phnarphnarphnar · 20/06/2013 23:16

Doesn't Angelina Jolie have two children named Zara and Vivienne??

They may or may not put you off but I think they go lovely together :-)

Linguaphile · 20/06/2013 23:18

Oh no, Felicity or Philippa were options to pair with Vivienne-- wouldn't put them together!

I think the Brangelina baby is Zahara... Like Sahara only with a Z. This unfortunate similarity did cross my mind, though... :(

I don't like the combo. I think Zara & Vivienne makes it look like one has a nickname/fun name and the other has a serious/proper name.

I think it looks/sounds better when both twins (and siblings) have either short or long name.

I like Felicity & Philippa (Flis & Pip) from your choices.

BlueStarsAtNight · 20/06/2013 23:27

I really like it, I think they go well together and both have a similar strong sound, better than the other names you mentioned. Is Gray your surname or a middle name for Vivienne?

bugsybill · 20/06/2013 23:29

I think the brangelina twins are Vivienne and Knox. Zahara is their older daughter.

I love them together! They sound great. My second choice would be Vivienne and Philippa.

Linguaphile · 20/06/2013 23:29

Gray is my husband's middle name (MIL's maiden name), so we'd like to use it as a middle for one of them.

Zara and Yasmin

Vivienne and Genevieve go nicely together.

or

Vivienne and Frances

Vivienne and Audrey

Andrea
Adele
Stella
Clara

lottiegarbanzo · 20/06/2013 23:38

Love Felicity.

I hint Vivienne sounds much more serious and old-fashioned, in a good way, with dignity and panache, than Zara, which is nice but more modern, simple and cute.

lottiegarbanzo · 20/06/2013 23:39

Think, not hint!

MrsBungle · 20/06/2013 23:46

I love the combo; beautiful.

I do not like Phillipa and felicity they sound wet and twee to me.

BlueStarsAtNight · 20/06/2013 23:52

Hmm ok I like Vivienne Gray but think if one is going to have a family meaningful middle name tge other should too - what's your middle name or maiden name, could you use one of those?
I really like Audrey with Vivienne too.

Linguaphile · 21/06/2013 00:03

Well, Vivienne isn't a family name, just Gray. We did think of Charlotte as a middle for Zara since Charles (the masculine form) is my dad's middle name. Also would make Zara a bit more serious. Don't like my maiden name for a first or middle--wouldn't bestow it on a pet, much less a child!

Felicity Zara goes well with Vivienne Gray.

BOF · 21/06/2013 00:20

I think they sound great together.

Namechanger012345 · 21/06/2013 01:14

I really like Zara

Linguaphile · 21/06/2013 09:49

Would it be better (for the length problems and to cut down on Jolie-Pitt associations) to spell it Vivien or Vivian instead?

Zara Winter and Vivien Gray, maybe?

OP posts:
BuntyPenfold · 21/06/2013 17:18

Can't they both have Gray for a second name?
Vivienne Gray
Madeleine Gray
Felicity Gray
Annabel Gray

(I don't really like Philippa, sorry)

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 21/06/2013 17:19

Zara is a lovely name, member of the royal family has it too.

Philippa is a horrible name

lottiegarbanzo · 21/06/2013 17:34

I think you should spell it the way you like best, few people are really going to make comparisons.

I do like that they're both near the end of the alphabet, unusual initials. Other such names that come to mind are Verity, Xanthe and Zelda. (I wouldn't use Zelda though as the two together make me think of Zelda Fitzgerald and Vivien Elliot, both unfortunate literary wives of the 1920s).

Might Vivienne ever be shortened? Vivi and Zara or Vivi and Xanthe sound really good. Viva and Fliss is good too but not quite as striking.

dianettey · 21/06/2013 17:40

Together they're very 'fashion' names. If I heard them, I would think you liked fashion. A lot.

dianettey · 21/06/2013 17:43

I think if you're going with Vivienne, you need a sort of equal name to go with it.

Eg Vivienne and Pippa wouldn't work, as it looks a bit like you're trying to prescribe personalities for them.

What about Emmeline, Rosalie, Elizabeth or Clementine instead?

I think twins named Clem and Viv would be lovely.
