Why would it be heddy? Plenty of people have confirmed that Hedy is a short form of Hedvig or hedwig pronounced hay-d.

Heddy sounds like teddy which is something else.

You know I was thinking about this and Britain (where you live, I'm assuming) is such a multicultural place now that many unusual names are now common and there is much greater range of different names.

I really don't think a Hedy would be teased in a modern/multicultural school for her name.

I know a Hodda and a Nogga who get along fine with their names.

It comes down to how the name will fit into your own family and social circle imo and if you are not concerned with their opinions and you love the name then you should use it.
