Suggested Edward as a possible name for DC2.

DH was very positive about Edward, but then... insisted that he would only go for Edward if we gave him the middle name Bear, because then he would be a Teddy Bear

WWYD? Leave Edward on the list & try to talk DH out of a ludicrous middle name, or go back to the drawing board?

My best friend's (now ex) DH tried very, very hard to persuade her that "Tiger" would be an acceptable name for their DS1.

if your DH really wants Bear as a second name here are more first name suggestions:

Haribo

Gummy

Polar

Grizzly

or have Bear as a first name, then middle names could be:

Hand

Feet

Necessities

Cub

still I wouldn't call him Edward Bear with the intention of calling him Teddy Bear. that's just making fun of him (not nice)

one of ours we nicknamed Bam-Bam - but no way he'd want to be called that when he is 30 or 50!

so tell DH to buy a pet and call that pet silly names!

Assuming we can't think of a name we like better than Edward and DH won't give up the Bear notion, I think that a middle name that means bear, like Arthur or Oscar is the only way to go.

But hopefully DH will come to his senses before DC2 arrives.

Oscar doesn't mean bear. Arthur, Bjorn, Bern (Berndt, Bernard, Berenger etc) or Orson would work.

Lancelot, lots of bear names if thats what he really wants, the embarrasment for your ds when filling in forms as an adult....

I think your DH hates the name Edward and is suggesting this so you'll drop it off the list rather than him having to argue it off the list

Edward Arthur is a GREAT name! Currently our top choice if this bump is a boy. Arthur is after my grandad- didn't even realise it meant Bear.

Yup. Start of the first book. He is called Edward Bear (the generic name for a toy bear I think) and says he would like his own name, so Christopher Robin gives him the nickname Winnie the Pooh.

We have a Ted (Theodore) and of course he's known as Teddy and Teddy Bear by us at home (he's 12 weeks) but to actually name him Bear is unkind!!

Teddy Edward was a bear and so was Barnaby.

The dc's teddies were Horatio, Wilberforce and Hamish - would your dh settle for any of them as an alternative?
