It would be cool if National Statistics kept a record of pet names too...

Just wondering what the most common names for pets are. I know my two cats have very common names because when I rang up to arrange their pet insurance the MoreThan guy told me so! Such a record would be useful when people say things on here like, 'You can't call your DC that, it's a dog's name'. It seems like Toby, Max, Bella and Daisy are all associated with our canine friends. I have to admit the only Max I've ever known was a dog. What are the names of the cats and dogs you know (leaving aside names that would never be used for people, like Fluffy and Rover)?

I know a Beau, Ava, Iona, Stan, Luca, Reuben, Lola, Scout and Katy. None of them seems particularly feline or canine except perhaps Beau. I think we're definitely moving away from the days of Fluffy and Rover and giving our pets real names. Mind you, I have just remembered that I also know a Pumpkin and a Pebbles, so my theory is not perfect Grin

Getting a black pug called Shadow and a pale pug called Ghost this summer... what does everyone think of the names?

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 05/06/2013 18:23

I like them. You'll be more original than me at any rate - both my cats' names are in the top 5 in that John Lewis list, should've put some more thought into them!

I know a dog and a baby with very similar names. I feel sorry for the baby.
I love the face of the vet when they have to call out names 'miss molly moose'...?
