What do you think of Annika and which spelling would you use?

Anneka , Anika , Annika...

Is any spelling more correct or can I just go for the one I prefer which is Annika.

Also what do you think of it? I have dithered on Iris, Erica, Linnea and have finally come to Annika.

Thanks

I have only ever heard of one Anneka in my whole life and that's Anneka Rice!!
Therefore this is the only spelling I would know (and would consider).

I'm not a massive fan of the name though, sorry. Iris and Erica are much nicer in my opinion.

SilveryMoon · 28/05/2013 13:14

Love Anneka. I would probably spell it Anika though.
Also like Erica.

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/05/2013 13:34

I used to love this name when I was little. Not sure where I got it from because I've never met anybody called it. Named a doll Annika and everything Grin

I'd spell it Annika I think.

crunchbag · 28/05/2013 13:34

I like Annika/Anika. Annika is the spelling used in Scandanavia (pippi longstocking) Germany and Holland. I think Anika is the Indian/African spelling.

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/05/2013 13:54

Oooh crunchbag it was Pippi Longstocking I got Annika from! I spend a good 10 minutes trying to remember where I heard the name as a child!

talkingnonsense · 28/05/2013 14:05

Do you say it an-eck-er or an- eek-er? I like it.

crunchbag · 28/05/2013 14:26

Grin Tommy and Annika, Pippi's friends.

I have always pronounced it the Dutch way; Annie-kah

wigglesrock · 28/05/2013 14:41

I say Annie kah. I like it, would probably spell it Anika but that would just be because I wouldn't want it shortened to Ann.

JojoMags · 28/05/2013 15:19

Didn't like it when I saw the thread, but having read it, it has grown on me! Like the Annika spelling. I would probably shorten it to Annie, but can see you might not want to. Much prefer to Erica and Linnea.

haggisaggis · 28/05/2013 15:31

My dd is "Anneke" - just to add another spelling to the mix.

Yellowtip · 28/05/2013 15:47

Anneka Rice was in my class at school. Her real name is Anne.

IAteTheCake · 28/05/2013 17:26

I work with an Annika who is half Swedish. That is my preferred spelling. I really like the name.

badtime · 28/05/2013 17:41

I know an Aniqa, a version of the Arabic name.

Hamwidge · 28/05/2013 17:43

I know an Anneka, I like it.

QueLinda · 28/05/2013 18:47

Thanks for the feedback. I will go for the Annika spelling just to steer away from the nickname Anne which is ok but not my style.

I'd pronounce it Annie-kah.

Hmm it is SO hard to decide but it is unusual - about number 900 on the name lists and good for all ages.

I like Annika best of all the names you said

galwaygirl · 28/05/2013 19:33

My MIL's name is Annica (Swedish), I prefer the c as I think it looks softer. And I think the name is great as it makes me think of MIL who is fab Smile
In Sweden the middle syllable is not an 'ee', more like 'i' as in lid.

Love Linnéa as well but always felt I couldn't use it in the UK because of the House of Fraser brand.

galwaygirl · 28/05/2013 19:33

Or as in Linnéa!

Turniptwirl · 28/05/2013 20:59

Oh and I went to uni with an anika but not 100% sure on the spelling so not much help I'm afraid! She would've been a mid 80s baby

OrangeFootedScrubfowl · 28/05/2013 21:04

I prefer Annick!

(Prn aneek.)

Auntlinny · 28/05/2013 21:08

Prefer Anneka. Anika is not uncommon in NZ and it is pronounced Ann eee ka. There is a well known N Z singer called Anika Moa.

cantbloodywellchoose · 28/05/2013 21:10

Anneka Rice immediately springs to mind!

JazzAnnNonMouse · 29/05/2013 08:22

I knew one that pronounced it more 'Ann i Ka' - I don't really like it tbh, much prefer the other names you've listed but each to their own Smile

QueLinda · 29/05/2013 09:00

I've asked a few people to pronounce Annika and Anneka and like you say Auntlinny Annika is 'Anee-ka' and Anneka is 'Annie-kah'.

So Anneka it is.

The Anneka Rice thing doesn't really bother me, everyone has mentioned it who i've spoke to in real life but she was ok wasn't she Grin. Plus anyone under 20 probably hasn't heard of her.

I know an anneka pronounced An-neek-ah, not Annie-kah.
