Have I gone mad...

I LOVE Daphne and thought I was pretty set on using it for my little girl until I shared it with some of my work colleagues. They're all quite young and the general consensus on Daphne was that it was a cruel thing to do to a child :/ The only other people I've shared it with are my sister and best friend who liked it and now I'm left wondering if the pregnancy hormones have gone to my head and we should find another name.

So what are your honest opinions on Daphne? Do you like it or not? What would you think of a baby named Daphne and if I love it should I just stick with it? I don't want her to grow up hating her name.

It's not like you are going to name your child Maude, Agnes, Hilda, Ehtel or Gladys, that would be mean, but Daphne is a beautiful name.

I like it, I think it's a bit like Iris where nobody would have called their child that 10 years ago & now it's becoming popular. I've always loved Delphine, similar to Daphne, but maybe prettier?

I like Maude! I also like Dorothy and Mavis. But Daphne? No.

Daphne, to me, is like Ethel, Hilda or Gladys.

Delphine is the hippy dippy girl from cold Comfort Farm - but that's fine .

There are sisters at DS's school called Daphne and Dilys.

Love love love Daphne, only slight downside is it shortens to Daph. Don't let other people's opinions put you off. Otherwise you'll end up with a run of the mill name and wish you had chosen Daphne.

One of my pet dislike names, along with Nancy. Sounds 'daft'. Sorry but you did want honest opinions. Don't let anyone on here put you off if you love it!

I really like it, it's cute for a little one and good for an older one. I also like the more American version which is Dabney (though am probably alone in that liking!).

I think Daphne is a very sweet name.

I get so when I hear that people make such thoughtless remarks about baby names. I know it's not an intentional dig, but still wish people (unless they're your immediate family and personal friends) should always just nod and smile and say 'lovely'.

It's a great name! Classic and feminine.

I know a heavenly teenage Daphne, it is very elegant and a refreshing change from all the ella/evie/isabella combos.

Great name. Initially I thought Scooby Doo. But my neice is Martha (18 now) and I always associated it to the char lady from Tom and Jerry. Not now though. She will grow into her name and people will knowq her not a cartoon character.

Daphne is ok. Would feel sorry for a Daff/Daffy/Daffodilly/Dilly though, at least one of which be inevitable.
