What do you think of Lewis for a boy?

I like it. Or more to the point, I don't see anything 'wrong' with it, if that is your concern OP. Makes me think of Scotland and of Lewis Hamilton.
As for the chav comment, I guess a "chav" or two may have used the name Lewis, just the same as they may have used any other name! I know an extremely "chav" (or refuse-to-work) family who's daughters are called Matilda and Jemima. Does that make two of Mumsnet's favourite names 'chavvy'?! What a load of rubbish. The only names that really fit that description are ones that have been deliberately mis-spelled to be 'cool'.

I like Lewis but didn't want to call DS a name that was in the top ten, which it has been up here (Scotland) for years.

If you like it then go for it. If you're Australian you probably have some Scottishness in there somewhere anyway!
