Boys named after their Dads... A pointless thread

So I love the name Christopher,

My mum did too and if I had a penis I would have been Christopher.

I have in fact married one :P

But I still love it. I worry about (as potential boy) gets older there will be post issues etc and I hate when other family's have the same names and shout 'xyz' and two people shout back

So my plan was to Have a Christopher but nn Kit?

We are v northern and (big) Chris thinks this sounds like a PE bag... It's not very common at all here.
I need some arguments to persuade him.

I've used Jon Snow from GoT to no avail.

I know my mum would use Christopher too despite being Kit...

I think I need to write it off but want to share my sad face

Love it....Kit is gorgeous. I love Christopher as well....you're the one who will be having the baby...you call him Kit....it can be YOUR special name for him. The point of nickames is that they are just that...not the real name and historically they're not used by everyone anyway....my Mum called me something entirely different to everyone else...my sister calls her DD Lil despite her name being Amy!

Other people all of his teachers will possibly just call him what you do anyway.

Christopher is lovely as is kit but I couldn't use it as every time I said 'kit' my mind would go wandering off to Jon snow from got and nothing would get dome around the house.

How about Kester, with the nn Kit?

I don't like it when boys are named after their parents even if they're eg Jamie and Jim, or Kate and Kitty.

Middle name, though, brilliant.

My ds2 is called dhs middle name.

I think they have to be quite different if passing down so Christopher and Chris no but Christopher and kit would be ok

I must be old, when I hear Kitt, I think of a black car with a swooshy light on the front belonging to the Hoff....

I have had this conversation with my husband, as my dad is the third in his line with his name. When they were all in the same place at the same time, there was no confusion, they were all known as something different, it evolved naturally from middle names and just the weird things you sometimes call your children. Eg my DS is often "sausage face", happily we did not follow in the family tradition.

There's a refreshing lack of ego from your DH if he doesn't fancy having a child "named after" him.

New name for your son so he has his own identity, with Christopher as a middle name?

My husband is called Andrew and DTS1 is called Drew. That works for us so no post confusion but still a link.
