Vivienne seems to be especially popular at the moment.

KittenofDoom · 18/05/2013 01:48

Yeah, Elodie! People are always suggesting that on here. I've never heard of anyone called Elodie though. Where has it come from, is there some actress or TV presenter or fictional character that's gone under my radar?

Proud owner of a "James"!

Common as muck and is timeless....and yes I will be putting this on the other thread....

JeggingsJive · 18/05/2013 07:34

I cannot believe no one has mentioned Marianne. Ultimate MN name IMO.

Catlike · 18/05/2013 08:19

I know one person in real life called Elodie, she's french (and a grown up). I thought it would be a gorgeous and v unusual name for a little girl until I joined MN but it seems to be getting really popular all of a sudden.

lottiegarbanzo · 18/05/2013 08:28

Yes, Elodie is the name I see mentioned a lot and adored here that I've never come across in real life.

KittenofDoom · 18/05/2013 12:41

So where are they getting it from?

lljkk · 18/05/2013 20:21

I know an Elladee, does that count? She must be 7 or 8 now.
Luka. How can none of you have mentioned it?!
Amelia, too.

bananaramma · 19/05/2013 07:15

I think Amelia has become far too widely used now as to be a mumsnet favourite.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 19/05/2013 09:48

There was a character on 'The Hills' called Elodie. But I bet no MNeter would admit watching such a downmarket show Grin

Yonionekanobe · 19/05/2013 15:32

I know three Elodies Shock

Not heard that Vivienne is getting popular - for me it will always be Pretty Woman...

KittenofDoom · 19/05/2013 15:48

There must be some reason for the Elodie thing. I can't see Melody being received with the same approval. Grin

SPsCliffingAllOverMN · 19/05/2013 15:50

Anything but K names.

D0oinMeCleanin · 19/05/2013 15:52

Every time dd1's name is mentioned on here everyone loves it, but I spell it wrong Blush

The right way just looked wrong to my eye.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/05/2013 15:54

Any real life Hecates out there?

Mariannesmum · 19/05/2013 19:18

I've only heard Elodie once in real life. Thought it sounded gorgeous.

Didn't realise Marianne was such a mn fave. JeggingsJive, do I get a prize???

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 20/05/2013 08:49

Harry, Jack, Oliver, Charlie, William.

Just kidding. Apparently these names are lacking imagination and overused. Hmm

shoobidoo · 20/05/2013 10:27

I think people are always looking for lovely underused names and these often tend to be those we've not heard for a long time i.e. old fashioned granny names.

And yes, names like Harry, Charlie, Alfie have become so widely used that to many they appear a little dull and, more importantly, often need a modifier (e.g. small, big, surname initial etc.) to identify someone as there are often several in a class.

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/05/2013 14:07

I know a RL Hecate! Very cool and funky and completely able to carry it off. She's in her 20s.

KittenofDoom · 20/05/2013 14:57

How is that pronounced? I think I've only ever seen it written down.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 20/05/2013 15:01

Heck cat ee

arabesque · 21/05/2013 15:51

I don't know anyone in RL who likes the name Audrey, but MNetters absolutely rave about it.

I have also seen people on here rave about the name Nuala which, in Ireland, is actually a very middle aged slightly frumpy name. I just cannot imagine a baby Nuala!
