Found out we're having a boy. Pretty sure he will be either Hector or Magnus. Which one??

jimmy- maybe she lives in Scotland? Magnus perfectly normal name!

Allalonenow · 12/05/2013 22:22

Magnus.

Hector is just not in the same league.

Wallison · 12/05/2013 22:25

Hector is lovely. And as well as being proper Scottish is very popular in S American countries, which to my mind makes it exotic as well - it calls to mind a good strong tradition.

I'm in Scotland and I think Magnus by a distance, especially if you've any orcadian heritage :) never been keen on Hector, only because I think of the verb.

Magnus (and Angus, and Fergus!) was on my list for dc1.

I agree with Jimmythecroc and exoticfruits. Just NO.

Manoodledo · 12/05/2013 23:17

I have a Magnus. We are in Scotland. Reception was slightly mixed, but I'm not sure Hector would have been any better received.

gallicgirl · 12/05/2013 23:20

Magnus, number 1 on my list if I ever have a boy and I'm brave enough.

Suzieismyname · 12/05/2013 23:28

Hector.

emmyloo2 · 12/05/2013 23:39

both fabulous and I would consider both if this baby was a boy. I think I would give the edge to Hector...

NoRoomForMeInMyBed · 13/05/2013 21:02

Magnus! Its a lovely strong name!

squoosh · 14/05/2013 13:47

Magnus, definitely. Such a manly name!

Hector is just awful.

I would consider a Magnus to be the polar opposite of a Hector in looks and personality.

evamummy · 14/05/2013 14:30

The meaning of hector (bully, tormentor) would put me off. Also the verb to hector isn't nice. Lastly, the lack of nice nicknames...

Magnus is much nicer or how about Marius?

GoodbyePorkPie · 14/05/2013 16:39

Hector. I have never heard anyone under 70 use 'hector' as a verb.

Catlike · 14/05/2013 16:50

Neither. Sorry.
