Pretty sure we are going for elodie as a first name now, (althoug both cecily, and polly appeal too) =), but for the middle name we cant decide on the spelling, do we go for:

  1. Alice
  2. Alys or
  3. Alyce

I'd go with Alice, its the most widely used spelling, as a middle name you will generally only use the sound, having it spelt an interesting way won't massively benefit anyone involved.

Once you get older your middle name generally is for forms, applications and 'official stuff' often where someone else is writing, I'd just keep it simple and go for Alice.

Alice

Littlehousesomewhere · 10/05/2013 12:01

I think Alice look nice.

GibberTheMonkey · 10/05/2013 12:16

Alice unless you have the welsh connection to have Alys
(Which I would do)

JojoMags · 10/05/2013 15:24

Alice

Spidermama · 10/05/2013 15:25

Alice.

Longdistance · 10/05/2013 15:25

Alice, I have an Alice Elizabeth.

Decoy · 10/05/2013 19:55

I don't like Alice at all, but for some reason I do like Alys.

Elodie is lovely, much prefer it to Cecily and Polly.

raisah · 11/05/2013 15:11

Alice.

Alice. I don't get the point of even considering the alternative spellings unless there is a heritage issue there.

exoticfruits · 12/05/2013 22:13

Alice- you don't want to subject her to a lifetime of spelling it.

TerrysNo2 · 12/05/2013 22:15

Alice. I don't see the point of weird spellings, unless of course there is a point! Grin

LittleMissLucy · 13/05/2013 06:01

Another for the trad spelling. Otherwise it looks a bit like Abyss. Not so good.

exoticfruits · 13/05/2013 07:16

Not only do you have to keep spelling it you have to keep explaining that 'yes, your parents could spell, they just wanted to be 'original''- it will be very tiresome.

Rubysmommy · 13/05/2013 07:21

Definitely Alice Smile

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform · 13/05/2013 07:24

Not only do you have to keep spelling it you have to keep explaining that 'yes, your parents could spell, they just wanted to be 'original''- it will be very tiresome.

But sometimes it isn't being "original" it's a nod to heritage or to family tradition. My DN has Alys as one of her middle names, after my GGM on my father's side. I think it's a beautiful spelling of the name, far prettier than Alice. Middle names are where you can be a bit wackier, imo, and spelling it isn't such an issue as it would be for a first name - how often do you have to give your middle names to other people?
