What do you think of Marley?

Myself and DH have fallen in love with the name Marley, it's actually the only boys name we agree on!! Obviously there has been a film out (Marley and me) where the name is used for a very memorable Labrador. Do you think the name is now a dogs name? The full name will be Marley Christopher Allen (+surname)... I really love it but don't want people to think we have given our child a dogs name. Opinions please!!

I just see a dog...sorry :(

neverlateforwork · 04/05/2013 17:37

I only know a little girl called Marley. I know a lot of boys called Harley.

It's fine as a unisex name.

Bowlersarm · 04/05/2013 17:38

I would think dog, although his friends won't. Have you considered Harley?

ClaraOswald · 04/05/2013 17:40

I know of three Marley's. Two are dogs, the other is a girl. And a little boy Marley came into my.place of work today.

YoniMontana · 04/05/2013 17:40

I think of the dog or the girl Marley in Glee.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 04/05/2013 17:41

There are worse things to be associated with a name other than a beautiful friendly laborador. If you like it go for it!!

Jojay · 04/05/2013 17:41

I know a little boy Marley - he's lovely.

Go for it.

HeffalumpTheFlump · 04/05/2013 17:41

I love Harley but would be stealing it from a friend :(

The ghost in A Christmas Carol.

Bowlersarm · 04/05/2013 17:42

Could you ask her of she minds if you use it? Some people wouldn't care at all, only a few might.

burberryqueen · 04/05/2013 17:43

I met a little girl called Marlee or Marley she would be about 14 now, I think it is/was actually a girl's name so would definitely think twice before calling a boy that - how about 'Eekamouse' or 'Buju Banton'?

HeffalumpTheFlump · 04/05/2013 17:44

Apparently if it's spelt Marley its for a boy, if it's Marlee or similar it's for a girl?

Rhubarbgarden · 04/05/2013 19:40

tilder · 04/05/2013 19:42

What rhubarbgarden said.

cookielove · 04/05/2013 19:43

The little girl in I am legend is called Marley Blush that i know that!! Which makes me think its a girl name, but i do love it Grin for both sexes!!

AuntieStella · 04/05/2013 19:45

It's always been a four legged name to me. Before the film, I knew several ponies of this name.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 04/05/2013 19:58

First thought: ghost
Second thought: dog

AnneEyhtMeyer · 04/05/2013 19:59

Oh and third thought: vinyl floor covering

SingSongMummy · 04/05/2013 20:01

Doesn't A Christmas Carol by Dickens start with 'Marley was dead'? Cool name though.
