I did once talk to a teacher who had a pupil called Alfo Margaret - and he asked the mum how she came up with the name, at Parents' Evening.
Her reply: 'Well, 'er was conceived in the graveyard and when I found I'd fell pregnant, I went back and looked at the gravestone, and I thought I'd use the man's name if it were a boy, and the woman's if it were a girl.'
Apparently the tombstone read:
Here Lies John Smith
Also ^(with the long, curved s that looks like an f)
Margaret, his wife.
Hence, Alfo Margaret.
