Why do people treat naming a child as some kind of joke?

This here news.sky.com/story/1085451/new-zealand-baby-name-ban-list-updated
Why in gods name would you do this to your own child?
You are supposed to love them and want the best for them etc...
Why would you want to name a child 4real or V8?

I'm in NZ.

Believe me, there are some people here who need this list.

I mean, it's hardly aspirational, is it. Grin

Clearly a few of those come from where they were conceived.

Unfortunately they don't seem to have the same effect as Porsha, Brooklyn and Phoenix Grin

Twins Benson and Hedges.... wtf...

MultipleMama · 02/05/2013 16:14

Well, Katie Price is screwed if she moves to New Zealand. Some names are just ridiculous.

DaveMccave · 03/05/2013 11:42

I dont presume they are stupid, but taking the piss out of the forced name registration system.

Booyhoo · 03/05/2013 11:47

Grin @ number 16 bus shelter!

if i were to name mine based on where they were conceived they would probably be "1.1 saxo- red" and "cream sofa- leather"

You never know if you have patents who are wacky and make a joke of everything, you might grow up to be the same or very similar and find it hilarious that you have such a name.

If you're from of a family of really dull names like Hugo and Catherine and you're called V8 you might feel uncomfortable, but if you've all got wacky names and then you end up being called Catherine you'd feel just as uncomfortable.

Most people I know, would have preferred an alternate name anyway.

It's only a name.

Mine would be bed, bed and bed - which might be a bit confusing!

I did once talk to a teacher who had a pupil called Alfo Margaret - and he asked the mum how she came up with the name, at Parents' Evening.

Her reply: 'Well, 'er was conceived in the graveyard and when I found I'd fell pregnant, I went back and looked at the gravestone, and I thought I'd use the man's name if it were a boy, and the woman's if it were a girl.'

Apparently the tombstone read:

Here Lies John Smith

Also ^(with the long, curved s that looks like an f)

Margaret, his wife.

Hence, Alfo Margaret.

True story.
