Our much longed for DD will be here in 4 months! (Three years of trying!) Hubby is one of those rare animals who is happy with most names I suggest, which although sounds great to have carte blanche, can be a little frustrating when I actually want opinions and ideas. (Bless him he is just so thrilled, we could call her Windolene and he would still be the proudest dad-to-be) :)

Anyway, these are the five he has shown the most interest in and I wondered what you thought. I am aware they are for the most part quite popular, but tell me what you think anyway:

Beatrix Hope

Lydia Alice

Romilly -help me out with a mn?? (NN poss Romy)

Thea Isabel

Posy Alice

Bit of a funny bunch but please opinion away, be as brutal as you like :)

Penelope, Eilidh and Florence are lovely. I don't know any babies with either of those names.

Apparently Asha which is an Indian name means hope.

Penelope Asha
Romilly Asha

Is your friend who called her DC Phoebe living locally to you? If you favoured it so long and she is a long way away and your DH likes the name, why give up on it?

I like all your name choices and I love that your husband is so excited he doesn't care what the baby is called! I think that's very sweet and how lovely that he is so thrilled. Lucky baby to be so wanted.

My favourites is Thea which I have considered for my baby due in 3 weeks. I like it's simplicity. I also like Beatrix and Lydia. Posy is nice and quirky. Romily I also like but I prefer more traditional names. Alice is a real favourite of mine as well.

So I think I would go Thea Alice. I don't think you can go wrong choosing a name like that.

Congratulations again!

Morning! To address the poster above, not only is she living locally to me, but she used to live WITH me and I am going to be her bridesmaid in two months (bump and all) so yes, a close friend...

It's ok though, I wouldnt choose the same as I want my dd to have her own lovely name :)

Thanks all for suggestions - the Asha one is good but DH's mum's dog (!) is called Asher.... ahem :)

I love Penelope written down, but am worried about the shortening of Penny which I dont love as much ...

Oooh just saw your other choices:

Penelope - love this
Matilda - I like this but it's really really popular in Australia where I live which put me off it
Eilidh (dh Irish) - I am not sure how to pronounce this one but I am Australian so quite ignorant on Irish names so feel free to ignore me
Noa - not a big fan
Florence - really like this and it was on our list but it's popularity put me off
Isabel - gorgeous but again, it's popularity puts me off which is such a shame because it is lovely

I think Thea still wins for me over any of the above.

In that case perhaps better put Phoebe to one side and what is it with dogs? there is often a good baby name already taken by a family canine!

Lovely choices I am sure the right one will present itself from your shortlist.

Thea is nice but doesn't go with Isabel (or anything starting with a vowel so Alice is also out).

Lydia Alice is great.

Romilly... Jean / Jane / Isabel

Posy is rather little-girlish for my taste.

My favourite is Lydia Alice, closely followed by Posy Alice. Not so keen on the others. Congratulations!

I like lots of your names, though I like Beatrice and hate Beatrix. Don't like Romilly at all.

My favourite combo is Isabel Posy but you didn't suggest that one! :)

Lydia Alice is my favourite of the combinations listed.
