Tabitha has been vetoed, what do you think of Orla?

3 weeks to go! DH (and MIL) has vetoed my fave, Tabitha.

He likes Matilda and also doesn't mind Orla. I think I prefer Orla out of the two...what do you think?

Also, any middle name suggestions to go with Orla?

Her big sister is Amelie Lola.

i personally prefer matilda out of those two. (although tabitha is much nicer- why does mil's opinion matter, btw? it's not her child!)

i'd go for a longer middle name if you do go for orla, i think it balances it out better. (although that's totally dependent on surname, of course.)

Both Orla and Matilda are lovely. Important you both like whichever you plump for though.

Orla is lovely, one of my favourites. Try to persuade your DH that you want to spell it Orfhlaith pretty please? It's still pronounced the same.

MIL's opinion ultimately would not have a bearing...if DH liked Tabitha I wouldn't be bothered about mil (although she does make such a song and dance about her hatred of the name).

I would spell it Orla...for the sake of her being able to spell it herself if anything!

I love Orlaith but not Orla as that spelling looks a bit harsh and like a continental brand of detergent.
I love Matilda and I think that fits best with Amelie.
How about Matilda Orla, that sits well alongside Amelie Lola ?

I think Orla is beautiful. My secret name crush is Audra though. Both beautiful.

Orla and Matilda are lovely

Maybe use one as a first and one as a middle.

If you go for Matilda you could end up (once kids at school shorten their names, even if you don't) with Tilly and Milly

Having said that, I love Matilda (and Tabitha, for what it's worth) - unfortunately dh wouldn't let me have either of them - but not too keen on Orla. I like someone's suggestion above of Matilda, with Orla for the middle name.

If you're English and you go for Orla, spell it just like that. Not Orlaith/Órfhlaith, there's just no need, unless it's a horrendous birth and you want to punish your child

I find Orla a bit dull and 70s, I'm an Irish child of the 70s so I can say that. Much prefer Tabitha, sorry it's been vetoed.

Love Matilda! Orla is also lovely though. How about Una?

I like Orla (Orla spelling is fine in my book) and am glad to see it's becoming popular in the UK. I know at least a half dozen from school and university in Dublin.

I like Orla Matilda as suggested. I think Orla goes well with Amelie - nice soft, graceful sounds.

As another Irish child of the 70's I also urge you not to call her Orla. It's pretty dull.

why would an Orla be teased? DD has friend called Orla - lovely child, lovely name.

Of the two, I would go for orla -simpler and less frilly IMO.

Tabitha is a cat's name to me - probably because I know two cats with that name

Why don't they like Tabitha?

I know a 1-year-old Matilda & a nearly-4-yr-old Tabitha ("Tabby") & love both names
