What do you think of Dylan?

DS due in June and we're struggling for names. We both kind of agree on Dylan William (William being a family name). I think I like it, but we've discussed so many names that I've confused myself!

Our other choices are Zachary or Leo.

Any thoughts?

I don't like Dylan.Think of the welsh poet who was always drunk.? Dylan Thomas. I like the name Leo.

invicta · 25/03/2013 20:28

I love Dylan and considered it for my eldest. Catherine Zeta Joe's eldest son is named Dylan

performancegirl · 25/03/2013 20:29

I think it's fab! (probably cos DS1 is called Dylan John William! Smile

VinegarDrinker · 25/03/2013 20:30

I love it, but am pretty biased! ;)

blondieminx · 25/03/2013 20:31

It seems to be getting more popular. I like it, was on our shortlist too Smile

But... Because I hear it more now, I'd go for Leo.

Ficidy · 25/03/2013 20:32

Don't like it. It seems that every second child I teach is called Dylan and most of them are troublemakers.

VinegarDrinker · 25/03/2013 20:33

Oh and meant to say, we haven't yet met any others (DS is 2)

SingSongMummy · 25/03/2013 20:37

I have 3 Dylans in my toddler music classes right now, which will give you an idea of how popular it is!

CremeEggThief · 25/03/2013 20:40

I love Dylan.

Beatrixpotty · 25/03/2013 20:41

I like the name.Have no idea how popular it is other than there being 1 in my son's nursery group of 40.

BonnieBlueButler · 25/03/2013 20:47

I'm not too fussed about it being popular and know of 2 myself, although not close friends/family. I can't remember any I have taught though so don't currently think of it as a 'naughty' name.

I do like the sound of it though. I'm glad it seems to have quite a positive perception from people.

Ds3 is Dylan - it was a compromise on my part, it Is growing on me though. It is quite popular here though .

Wilts · 25/03/2013 20:52

Hmm, overuse of 'though' I am being distracted by Paul Hollywood Grin

BlissfullyIgnorant · 25/03/2013 20:52

Depends where you live - it's very common around here. Especially when coupled with 'Patel' or 'Shah'. DCs prep schools had at least 2 of each in each year group - confusing for staff!

I think it's quite popular but I like it :)

Leo is nice too but I think Dylan goes better with William.

SilverBirdie · 25/03/2013 20:58

Love it! I think popularity varies so much depending where you live..... Hardly come across any here.
Much prefer it to Leo but I like Zachary just as much as Dylan Grin

BonnieBlueButler · 25/03/2013 21:00

Thanks everyone Smile

Does anyone think that it is a name that will become dated? I'm more concerned about this than it being popular. Someone said on a thread a while ago that it is destined to become a future Wayne or Darren. I've never thought of Dylan in this way - does anyone else?

OP posts:
SilverBirdie · 25/03/2013 21:27

Erm.... No! I wouldn't have said it was 'one of those names' of recent years. Confused

birdofthenorth · 25/03/2013 21:31

Dylan is lovely. Not sure it goes with William though. Too much "lan" and "lam".

BlueStarsAtNight · 26/03/2013 04:31

I much prefer Leo and Zachary - I always think of Dylan as a dogs name tbh (I know 2 dogs called it which is probably why!). I don't think it would date in the same way as Wayne or Darren though.

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 26/03/2013 05:11

I agree it is could be the next Wayne or Darren.
