Pre-dh veto short-list

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 22/03/2013 20:46

Hello all,

I would really appreciate some thoughts before I take my short-list, cap in hand, to DH. If I can get some support for names on there, they are less likely to meet with instant dh veto!

This is dc3 - we have a dd with a v "normal" name (which was much more unusual a decade ago when she was born!), and a ds with a v unusual one.

Boys:

Joseph
Gregory
Rufus
Francis (I have gone off this quite a lot since the new Pope chose it!)

Girls:

Tess
Greta
Faith
Vita
Clarissa

DH likes Frances, but I have the Pope issue again. Also there is the fact that I am a Southerner living in the Midlands, so I say Frances with a long a, whereas dh, my other kids, and virtually everyone else I know says it with a short a. I think that this would irritate me. It doesn't bother me as much for a boy, as he would be Frankie, at least to us, but a girl would remain Frances, so it would be more of a problem.

Other suggestions welcome, although nothing beginning with A or M please :)

I like these best Smile

Rufus
Tess
Vita
Greta.

NoMoreMarbles · 22/03/2013 20:54

I'm only keen on 1 of your choice of boys names- Joseph and 1 girls name - Greta and even then they wouldn't appear on my own short list...

How about...

For boy

Nathan
Ashley
Andrew

For girl

Erin
Rachael
Eliza

Much prefer Gregor to Gregory. Sory but thats the only boys name.

Girls-wise, like Greta and Tess. Prefer Rita to Vita.

Ill chuck a few suggestion in - Rex and Anouk.

SergeantSnarky · 22/03/2013 20:59

the two most out there for me are rufus and vita - quite like them both

pope has put me off francis too gah!

tess is nice
joseph okay

not keen on the others

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 22/03/2013 21:04

Thanks everyone :)

Nomoremarbles, I love Nathan, but was a dh veto last time. Not considering any names beginning with A, as both other children have A names, and I don't really want it to look like I gave them all the same initial on purpose.

Mortified, Rex and Anouk are a bit "out-there" for me. My ds is called Asher, so unusual, but not particularly trendy.

Love Joseph and Gregory from your list

How about
Dominic

For girls you like Tess and Clarissa and immediately thought Vanessa.
Lovely name nn Ness, Nessa etc

wigglesrock · 22/03/2013 21:15

I would stay away from Francis but that is solely because you have no idea of how many John Pauls I went to school with. I like the other boys names. Dominic was on my boys list as was Leo?

I love Tess and Greta - Francesca?

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 22/03/2013 21:23

I really like Dominic. I am fairly sure dh doesn't, which is why it's not on the list, but can try again :) Not over-fond of Dom as an nn though.

I don't like how Francesca sounds - don't like it ending with that harsh "k" sound. Objectively, I should love Vanessa, but it reminds me of Vanessa Feltz, and she irritates me.

Ooo Asher is a lovely and very cool nameSmile

I seem to have an abundance of A names on my list

Ashley
Aaron
Andrew
Amelia
Alexia
Alicia

I need to move on to another letterGrin

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 22/03/2013 21:42

NoMoreMarbles, A is an excellent letter :)

As an SEN teacher, I always feel the need to point out that alexia is an aquired inability to read, almost like a word blindness caused by an injury or illness. Probably not many people would actually know that, but I think I would like to know before naming my dd that.

Well I never knew that!Smile

simplesusan · 22/03/2013 23:40

I like Joseph and Clarissa best.

nooka · 23/03/2013 05:39

I like Gregory and Francis (aka Frank/Frankie). Although the new pope might lead to a resurgence I guess.

I don't really like any of your girls name choices I'm afraid.

Eskino · 23/03/2013 05:54

Joseph - really nice. Plus Joe is one of the best names for a boy IMO.
Rufus - Adorable

Tess - strong, love it.
Vita - again a name for a strong independent spirit

The others I'm not so keen on

Timetoask · 23/03/2013 06:22

Joseph and Tess

gertrudestein · 23/03/2013 10:24

^^ what she said!

thegreylady · 23/03/2013 13:17

I only like Tess and Faith of the girls' names.
All the boys' names are fine although Rufus isn't a favoutite-dare I say a bit 'doggy'?

CarriMarie · 23/03/2013 13:48

Gregory Joseph & Greta Faith.

Clara is a bit rhymey with our surname. Forgot to say middle names will be family names: Elisabeth for a girl and probably William or Francis (if not used for a fn obv!) for a boy.

Littlecherublegs · 23/03/2013 15:38

Like all your boys names apart from Francis.
Dislike all your girls names apart from Clarissa.
