my nephew's name is Charlie. He's only going to be 1 year older than DS, and we hope the cousins will see a lot of each other.

Too similar?

(I imagine shouting at one of them and them both turning round. Will everyone think I'm trying to find a name that sounds like Charlie?)

I like names ending in o but DP has vetoed Leo, good friend's DS is Theo, good friend's brother is Milo ... and I can't think of any more!

I don't get it Hmm

Arlo sounds nothing like Charlie. Or am I missing something?

telsa · 18/03/2013 19:57

Sounds fine to me.

tvmum1976 · 18/03/2013 19:58

I don't think they sound alike at all and Arlo is lovely! go for it!

LuLuLovesYou · 18/03/2013 19:59

I don't think they sound alike at all you are over thinking it!

gertrudestein · 18/03/2013 20:00

Ha ha! Ok, maybe I'm just paranoid then! Thanks for the help, ladies!

I think Arlo is a lovely name. I may be totally missing something but I don't think it's too similar to Charlie at all.

I can emphasise as my niece is Lily and we're toying with the name Otillie but worried LO might end up with the nn Tilly which is much too similar.

I wouldn't worry about Arlo and Charlie, they are quite different IMO.

Ruprekt · 18/03/2013 20:03

If you were going for Harley I would say it was too similar but Arlo is not!

Alfio
Actually most italian boys names end in o.

Or Luca?

Charlie and Tom?

gertrudestein · 18/03/2013 20:21

thanks teapig - I think Ottilie is a lovely name - could there be another nn, e.g. Otty? (not as pretty as tilly, admittedly ...!)

donteatthat · 18/03/2013 20:26

I don't think Arlo sounds anything like Charlie at all!! Go for it, I love he name Arlo!

birdofthenorth · 18/03/2013 21:45

Arlo is a variant of Charles (or so the Arlo I know's mum told me, which is backed up by a quick Wikipedia check!). I think having heard that would put me off naming siblings Charlie and Arlo, but for cousins I think it's ok. They may have similar origins and the "arl" sound but to me Charlie is cutesy and quintessentially British, while Arlo is modern and Mediterranean in feel.

PuffPants · 18/03/2013 21:47

If you were calling him Charlo you might have a point. But Arlo? Don't be daft Grin

Loupee · 18/03/2013 21:49

I don't think Arlo and Charlie are alike at all. Arlo is lovely.
My DS is Aaron when he was about 8 weeks I panicked as his cousin is Cameron and I became convinced people would think they were too alike or Aaron is like a part of Cameron, I've mostly gotten over it now.
But I do see where you are coming from :)

Ham69 · 18/03/2013 22:24

As all the others have said, they're nothing alike whatsoever!!
Arlo's a fab name. Have you thought about Jago also if you like 'o' ending names?

ladymia · 18/03/2013 23:01

Confused in no way the same, as the others have said

allbie · 19/03/2013 19:51

I know brothers called Arlo and Charlie!

DaveMccave · 19/03/2013 22:47

I don't think they are too similar at all :) I love o ending names too, my favourite is Otto.
