Are middle names necessary? Any suggestions for Henry?

We managed to decide on Henry for a first name but can't decide on a middle name. I don't particularly see the point but feel like he should have one because everyone else has! We thought of Oliver but were put off by the fact that his initials would be HOB, does this matter? Any other suggestions?

James, or any classic family name.

Middle names are to have something that means something to you.

My DS would have been Tomas after my DGF, but I only have DDs

We named our Henry's (DT2) middle name after a beloved family member. Oliver is lovely. For both our DT's we chose family names - DT1's middle name is his Dad's name.

Henry Alexander (love this one)
Henry James

My 3 have family names as middle names eg DM maiden name,DGF name.If you have a boy it's a nice way of acknowledging the links with the mum's side as usually you won't pass on any names you've had to your son.But they are certainly not essential!
If you have no names you need/want to use like that, how about
Henry Miles
Henry George
Henry James
Henry Oliver is nice too, wouldn't worry about HOB.

I don't have a middle name. It's made no difference to anything ever.
If you don't want to give one don't. (My name is unique though - both first and surname)

Thank you for the suggestions! Oliver is DPs name so it would make sense to go with that. I'm just mentioned the initials because I'm slightly paranoid about potential nicknames!

I like mn to be after family members.

Ds 1 is after my Dad and ds2 is after DH and DH's grandad.

Henry Oliver James sounds fabulous!

Henry Oliver Miles is lovely too.

Spike!

I'm sorry, I'm a massive fan of unusual middle names.

Henry is THE most totally perfect boys' name ever. Congratulations on having such impeccable taste.

Don't worry about HOB, at least it isn't NOB!
Henry Oliver Oscar B* spells HOOB, and is therefore Hoobilicious :)

We couldn't think of a middle name for DS2, so he didn't get one. No biggie. Neither me nor DH have one either. It's never been an issue. However, DS1 has one, just because...
