Sorry to bother you all again Grin

Reuben
Fabian
Oisin
Pip (long option that isn't Phillip?!)
Errol
Innes
Idriss
Jude
Barnaby (nn would be bear Wink)
Emery
Taliesin
Soren
Rudi
Otis
Ezri
Pasco (Cornish name,meaning 'Easter,new life')
Kitto/Kit (love these but not a fan of Christopher...)
Clemo ( Cornish form of clement,BC would have clement)
Edwin (nn teddy)
Torrin
Hector - nicknames?!

Opinions? Nickname options? Will Clemo be 'too much' when we already have an Arlo?

MammyKaz · 14/03/2013 13:40

I like Oisin & Reuben the most in that order.
Why do you have to have a nickname? I'm not a fan of shortening already short names for the sake of it tbh. My name is 5 letters, you can't really get much shorter Smile

FriggFRIGG · 14/03/2013 13:43

Both our DC have very short names 3-4 letters, I fancy something a bit longer this time, but I know we'll end up shortening it,or lengthining it into a sing song silly NN,as we have with our other two Grin

notso · 14/03/2013 13:46

I like Pasco, Jude, Idriss, Soren and Rudi.
I like Clement but not Clemo.
I am not keen on contrived nn, I prefer them to come naturally once the DC are here but am a MN minority on this I think.

toobreathless · 14/03/2013 13:50

We have similar taste :) I like most of your names. Personally I think Clemo and Arlo is too much together but would you consider just using 'Clem' as a nn?

Names from your list I LOVE:
Hector, we were planning to use TOR as a NN for this
Errol
Edwin
Torrin
Jude
Idriss
Oisin

Names from your list I like:
Pasco
Barnaby
Kit but agree re:Christopher
Pip: coukd you use Pippin as full name?
Reuben
Otis
Siren
Innes

Names I dislike/wouldn't use (sorry)
Emery makes me think of emery board
Taliesin: tricky to spell and pouncy, too 'try hard'
Fabian, makes me think of baddie in Oliver much prefer Reuben.
Ezri: much prefer Ezra.

Names I like but not on your list (expecting DD2 so humour me!)
Rowan
Gray
Percy
Emmet
Robin
Gregor/Gregory
Ernest
Ambrose
Walter

CelticPromise · 14/03/2013 13:50

Taliesin is easy- nn Tal.

I know an Oisin (forget where the accent goes) known as Osh.

CelticPromise · 14/03/2013 13:51

I like Innes.

CelticPromise · 14/03/2013 13:52

I've only ever seen Idris spelt with one s.

MakingAnotherList · 14/03/2013 13:58

I agree with notso.
None of my children use the nicknames that I'd planned before they were born. They each have nicknames that have naturally evolved and ones that I hadn't even considered during pregnancy.

FriggFRIGG · 14/03/2013 14:00

too
I'd never made the emery board connection!
I can't see Pippin on a grown man,I like it on a boy,but not a teenager or adult... Sad

Yes,I could totally use Clem! I like that, thanks.but does that mean Pasco and Kitto are out too?

I can't use Ezra,I used to know a family with a young Ezra, and as much as we don't see them anymore,we are still 'friends' on facebook, and good friends with friends of theirs iyswim...and it's such an unusual name it would look like copying...Ezri is pushing it to tbh.
Taliesin I love, but I am unsure I could 'get away' with it having no welsh connection!

Lots of the names on your list were on my long-longlist Wink

FriggFRIGG · 14/03/2013 14:03

I know, neither have mine...we have a 'Bugsy' which is nothing like her name, and not even one I particularly like....and Arlo is generally Barlo-pants.... Confused

Still,I can plan, and dream about luffley NN's Grin

OP posts:
poppydaisy · 14/03/2013 14:29

I love

Arlo & Clement
Arlo & Fabian
Arlo & Quentin
Arlo & Reuben
Arlo & Soren

Nicknames evolve and don't need to be planned. My kids have 3 and 2 syllable names that are rarely shortened - the names are so nice that I just love saying them in full Smile.

Bunbaker · 14/03/2013 14:31

Why a nickname? Why not just choose a name that you actually like to use?

FriggFRIGG · 14/03/2013 14:33

I have explained about the nickname twice already.
I just know NN's will happen in this house, and although I know in reality that it might not evolve the way I 'plan' it,I'd just like to see possibility's.

OP posts:
FriggFRIGG · 14/03/2013 14:34

I love Arlo's name,I love saying it....but it does often turn into ArloBarloPants anyway...

TenthMuse · 14/03/2013 21:00

What a great list! my favourites are:

Oisin - gorgeous, but no one seems to agree on how it's pronounced!
Jude
Barnaby
Soren
Otis
Pasco - like it - unusual but not too out there
Kitto/Kit - another who loves these, but isn't a fan of Christopher!
Torrin - prefer spelt Torin

Only dislike a few of your choices - Rudi, Errol, Idriss and Ezri.

FriggFRIGG · 14/03/2013 22:26

Thanks!
I'm on the hunt for an alternative long name for kitt/kitto...I'll report back if I find anything!

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 14/03/2013 22:32

Soren
Rudi
Otis
Hector
Barnaby
Pasco
Edwin
Jude - very nice

Are the best

Errol just makes me laugh! Grin Sorry!

FriggFRIGG · 14/03/2013 23:17

Errol 's gunna get cool again I tells you! Wink

I'm quite surprised at the reaction to Pasco,I didn't think it'd go down well...interesting....still,I probably can't get away with it seeing as we have an Arlo....can I?
At least with Clemo/Clem there's the long name Clement to use....this is why I need to find a long form of kit....

I love Cornish names/diminutives...they 'feel' cosy,somehow.

OP posts:
devonsmummy · 14/03/2013 23:29

Love Pasco, never heard it before.
I think it sounds good with Arlo

devonsmummy · 14/03/2013 23:30

Pascale as a longer version ?

soontobeslendergirl · 14/03/2013 23:39

Christian or Crispin for Kit?, Peter for Pip?

I like:
Torin with one R
Innes
Edgar instead of Edwin

the rest are not my cup of tea i'm afraid but if we were all the same it would be pretty boring :)

soontobeslendergirl · 14/03/2013 23:40

or....Peter Idris Pasco = Pip :o

FriggFRIGG · 15/03/2013 09:38

Christian etc are all out-I'm a staunch atheist Grin

I love Edgar, but I don't like Ed,and inevitably it would end up shortened to that at some point.

I'm not sure about Pascale....sound a bit...much...if I was going to use Pasco,I'd put that on the BC.

Would it be terrible to use Kitt, just on it's own?

OP posts:
soontobeslendergirl · 15/03/2013 10:04

Cathal or Charles = Kit?

I wouldn't use it on it's own I don't think but i am not a brave namer :o

I don't think Edgar is any more likely than Edwin to become Ed rather than Ted unless that's what they want.

baskingseals · 15/03/2013 10:24

frigg - i know a little Kit who is just Kit.

love your names, especially Fabian or Otis.

what about Jem?
