Arthur or Stanley?

Which do you prefer? One is my favourite, the other my DHs! Whichever we use, we'd have the other choice as a middle name I think.
Other boy names we like are Edward or Theodore (Ted for short!) or Travis, not as keen on these though :)

I have a Stanley, but love Arthur too.

My now 6 year old wanted him called Treehouse, so Stanley was the better option for us

DF's dad was Stanley, DM's dad was Arthur. I'd go for Arthur. If it gets shortened, and one day it will by someone, Art is nicer than Stan.

both great names - Stanley is the only name I heard after ds was born that made me wish I'd chosen that instead.....

Think on balance now I'd go for Arthur though - am not sure that I like Stan as a nickname.

Arthur was Flat Stanley's brother - you clearly have the same train of thought as Mr and Mrs Lambchop!

Personally I would go with Alfie, but then I'm biased as I have a little 2 year old Alfie! Out of Stanley and Arthur, I think Arthur is my favourite!

I'm not a fan of the "old man" names tbh. Classic names are great though. James, William or Thomas would be my choices.

I'm expecting an Arthur next month For some reason DS aged 10 and DD aged 2.5 won't countenance him being called anything else which poo poos the "ask anyone under 20" comment upthread! I would say old fashioned names are popular with the young and not the middle aged (MIL is 62 and thinks Arthur is awful, but I guess to her generation it's like calling someone Trevor or Clive!).

I do love Stanley too though, and both Edward nn Ted and Travis were on our list! I'm loving your taste OP, even if others are not -it takes all sorts

I like them both but prefer Stanley

In my DHs family, the son always has the Fathers first name as his seocnd name. Consequently my DH has Arthur as his second name. Much nicer than his first name.

Both are lovely but I think Stanleys will be more numerous within the years to come. I bloody loved the Flat Stanley books though!

Catballou no offence but how do you know he wouldn't want to be called either of those names?! It's all subjective, and just because you associate them, presumably, with old men, it doesn't mean that association will necessarily be around for long. Names like Alfie, Evie, Matilda, and Freddie all had similar connotations at one point and they're all pretty popular now.

Both are my Grandads names and they are very special men so I don't have a favourite and love both names!

I am choosing Arthur for one of my twin boys :) Stanley is my DS1 middles name! (so I am biased) actually prefer Arthur (Artie for short).
