FINALLY have our girl's short list

After much discussion and posts on here, DH and I have decided on the following short-list for DD due in 10 weeks time. She will be a little sister for DS George.

Flora - this is our joint current favourite and nice that it's Scottish as my grandparents were Scottish and DS was named after Scottish grandfather
Florence - an alternative to Flora if Flora is a little "out there"?
Audrey - my second favourite and the name of my grandmother
Vivienne - DH's choice but my least favourite of them all

Your thoughts or opinions? And FYI - we are in Australia and none of these names are remotely unpopular and Flora, I imagine, would be almost unheard of. Audrey would be the most popular but still outside the Top 50, which was a requirement for us.

Many thanks!

They are all lovely. I love Vivienne but really dislike Viv so for me it wasnt an option.
Flora is very pretty as is Florence. I would probably choose Flora but only because Florence is very popular here. They are both equally beautiful.
Audrey is probably my least favourite.

Thanks very much sw11. I have a feeling we will go for Flora over Florence although I adore Florence.

My DH is not that keen on Audrey and I am not that keen on Vivienne so I suspect we will land on Flora/Florence. Flora flows better with our surname but I do love Florence!

Thanks for your feedback.

I like Vivienne the best, by a mile. The others are a bit old lady for my taste and I don't like the possible shortning of Florence to Flo.

I would never name a child Flora. Flora is the name of a popular margarine and girls who had lots of boyfriends were called Flora at secondary school because they spread easily.

Audrey. If DC2 was a DD not DS I would be strongly considering Audrey. I think it's pretty perfect.

Vivienne just seems more fresh, if it was Vivien then that would seem old lady.

I like Florence Smile with it shortened to Flora. Vivienne is also nice...althought you would need to also like Viv. Not so keen on Audrey....sounds a tad old ladyish.

Shybairns · 11/03/2013 20:11

Definitely go for Flora.

Bowlersarm · 11/03/2013 20:11

Love love love Flora. Either on it's own or shortened from Florence

SurreyWithAFringeOnTop · 11/03/2013 20:12

Flora is gorgeous. Best by far

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/03/2013 20:28

All lovely but prefer Flora as a nn rather than alone. Particularly like Vivienne and then Audrey.

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 12/03/2013 12:24

Lovely lovely names list. I may steal it Grin

I think Flora is a beautiful name, go for it!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 12/03/2013 12:25

Shall go for Flora.

Vivi is sweet but not Viv.

Zoelda · 12/03/2013 21:05

Audrey is one i loved

mathanxiety · 12/03/2013 21:48

Flora Vivienne or Audrey Vivienne?

I think both go really well with George (same vowel sound) and are lovely names.

ithaka · 12/03/2013 21:50

I love Flora.

I don't like Audrey - the Audreys I know are lovely ladies but 50+ and they both dislike their name - they think it is frumpy.

Florence and Vivienne are also nice, but Flora is my fave.

exoticfruits · 12/03/2013 22:05

I think that Audrey is old ladyish.

MyLittleDiva · 13/03/2013 14:57

I really do like Flora

emmyloo2 · 13/03/2013 22:37

Thanks all. I think we have decided on Flora. Seems nice compromise given we both like Florence but want something a little less popular. Plus the Scottish element is good given my grandparents were Scottish and my son was born in Scotland and named after his Scottish grandfather.

Now for the middle name.....

Smashing choice. Sounds great with George.

2nd name: thought you were set on Catherine...?

INeverSaidThat · 14/03/2013 00:09

Flora is a beautiful name. I liked all your list though.

emmyloo2 · 14/03/2013 03:43

Donkeys - was set on Catherine (after my aunt) but now considering Amy after my sister...

Flora Amy
Flora Catherine

I am thinking Amy just because I know my sister will be delighted. We both have DS very close in age and she is having another little boy 10 weeks after I am due to have this baby. So it would be nice to have her name as the middle name.

I feel quite relieved to have finally decided and my DH adores the name Flora. He is absolutely set on it which is great!
