I should say the middle A is short, like in "cat"

Think if someone asked her name and you said ari Anna they would say 'rihannas a lovely name'

For me:

Arianna = ar-ee-AN-uh (as in Harry without the H + Anna)

Ariana = ar-ee-AHN-uh

With that spelling, Arry-Anna

Spelt Ariana (which I prefer), Arry-Arna

and I would think you were a Dumbledore fan Grin

A [as is in cat] ri [as in rhianna] ana [as in banana]

I would pronounce it Aray-anna no elongated sounds...just one word

I would probably say Ari-Anna (like Anna but with Harry with dropped H on the front iyswim).

You would get both all the time, I think. I know an Adriana pronounced Ay-dree-Anna but she often gets Ay-dree-ah-na. She answers to both but I think it would annoy me if I was her mum. :)

The one at school is Arry Anna

(Which my phone has bizarrely changed to Settee)

Agree with all those who say Arianna = Arry-anna and Ariana = Arry-arna. You just wouldn't pronounce 'anna' as 'aaana' in any situation I can think of.

Ari aaaana

I would say
Arianna = are- ree- arna ( so a nn would be aria= are-ree-a)

Rather than the arry sound at the beginning

"You just wouldn't pronounce 'anna' as 'aaana' in any situation I can think of. "

agree - I can't think of any words or names with 'anna' pronounced 'aaana'

Anna
Hannah
Susanna/h
manna
savanna/h
hosanna
cannabis
annal
scannable

The double n shortens the the preceding vowel.

I know an Ariana (a-ri-aaaah-na)

and an Arianna (a-ri-anna).

Double n = a

One n = aaaah

My DD, Ariana, is pronounced A-ri-anna. My SIL insists on pronouncing it A-ri-arrna. Not a problem in itself but you think she'd pick up on the way her parents like to say it (but then she's very good at not listening to anyone but herself!). She'll even repeat it back to me her way.

PS, got it from a book I read 20 years ago - NOT Harry Potter!!
PPS, am most annoyed at Imogen Thomas (whoever she is!)

Your SIL is right.

Pronunciation is rarely arbitrary.
