Dd will be known as Edie most of the time but we don't want a nn on the bc. DH loves Edie but not so keen on Edith, whereas I love it, but I quite like Eden as an alternative. He likes it more!

Which would you vote for?!

Eden Smile

scaevola · 26/02/2013 16:04

Edith.

Eden was traditionally a boys name and I'm not that keen on unisex.

Songbird · 26/02/2013 16:06

Edith for me

OddFrog · 26/02/2013 16:09

Edith, love it. I like Esther too.

MolotovCocktail · 26/02/2013 16:09

Eden.

Edith is one of those 'old lady' names, which, no matter how many times I try to convince myself otherwise, just sounds fusty. I can't figure out it's repopulatity (like Ethel and Maeve).

ChristineDaae · 26/02/2013 16:09

Eden definitely!

Iseeall · 26/02/2013 16:10

Eden. Sounds fresh modern to my ears, really like it.

It's going to be half and half isn't it?!

Eden.

MolotovCocktail · 26/02/2013 16:13

Uml, what does your gut instinct say about the name?

McNo · 26/02/2013 16:14

Eden Smile

Umlauf · 26/02/2013 16:23

Hmm well I have liked Edith for a long time molotov and Eden is a fairly new suggestion so I might well go off it but I do like it now. There are no girls names that I absolutely love but I do really like Edie and it's DHs favourite.

It's just that Eden and Edith are so different: one is fresh, unisex and modern sounding and the other is granny chic (I do really like some granny chic names, like Pearl, Iris and Violet). If you love Edith but compromise with Eden, then it may backfire in the future. You might one day look at your DD and think "I WISH I'D CALLED YOU E?D?I?T?H!!! "

Anyway, other names I could think of where Edie would be the NN are:

Edana
Edwine
Edina
Ediva
Edrea

You could just name her Edie, of course :)

MolotovCocktail · 26/02/2013 17:00

Not 'Edwine' but 'Edwina' excitedly typing on iPhone

TheYamiOfYawn · 26/02/2013 17:02

Edith. It's chic and elegant. I think Eden is a little bit tacky.

slambang · 26/02/2013 17:06

Edith. Lovely classic but still quite unusual.

Eden - a bit, well ...

MolotovCocktail · 26/02/2013 17:07

Edith in other languages:

Editha (German)
Edetta/Editta (Italian)
Dita (Czech)

It seems to me that as you have liked Edith for such a long time, and your DH loves Edie as a NN, then Edith is the natural choice.

Or Edie ...

Whoops!

MyCatsRule · 26/02/2013 17:10

I know 3 Edens - all boys!

Umlauf · 26/02/2013 17:12

Thanks everyone! I love Edie but think it fails the prime minister test so would want a more formal bc name, and Edith I do like (also LOVE Iris molotov but sadly DH doesnt!) DH does say that he has 'warmed to Edith enough to accept it although probably will never address her that way unless she's been naughty' so may be safer sticking with that. I do really love Eden but if its a bit, well...! I do like a posh name!!
