Cara or Kara

I prefer Cara but DP likes Kara.

Part of me wants to use Kara to go against the grain of MIL as she has not shut up how its a family thing as all of her DC's will have a child with initials CLB (totally unintentional I might add) so K would be breaking that apparently Hmm

I realise that sounds totally pathetic but she is quite an over powering character who would literally introduce the baby with this bizarre anecdote for the rest of her life and I've had enough of that from DS (he shares her birthday) and this is brought up constantly!

So am I being rediculously hormonal by consideting the spelling I'm not overly keen on just to shut MIL up? :o

Cara.

When I was 16 I knew siblings called Niclas and Alexandra. Both were horse riders and their parents had a shop called Nicalex.

I always wanted a daughter called Cara Alexandra to get a Caralex. I know, I know... Hmm

Kara. Since it's been pointed out that it's from Norse mythology.

I like Cara better. Also get the MIL thing, it would annoy me. I would change the middle name if you are just doing it because DS has DP's name. Just pick a middle name you love, the connection is that you picked it especially for her, and that would mean more imo.

Cara, but I'm biased as I have a Cara Elizabeth.

glenthebattleostrich · 23/02/2013 21:20

I have a Cara, it is a gorgeous name. We picked it because out of our shortlist it wasn't one we heard before in our local area, so stop putting it on your shortlists, it is mine. All mine Grin

Cara is a lovely name (Kara is a made up name)

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/02/2013 21:22

I have a Cara. My nn may explain why I didn't go for Kara Grin
Cara also means love in Italian and expensive or face in Spanish. And it is also a type of potato!

discrete · 23/02/2013 21:22

Kara for me, because Cara means face in Spanish and that feels a bit weird to me as a name.

Sashapineapple · 23/02/2013 21:30

or means expensive in Spanish, because of the pronunciation they unrecognisable as the same word though.

stickygotstuck · 23/02/2013 22:32

Can I poit out that, although it does mean 'expensive' in Spanish, it also means 'dear'. OK, it's not its first, immediately obvious meaning, but it's exactly the same as 'dear' and 'expensive' in English. Theay are related concepts but different nuances. Expensive as 'held in high esteem' (ie dear), so similar to the Italian meaning (and the Irish one reported here!).

Not that this matters if you aren't planning on living in Spain anyway! But just saying, in case that one fact puts you off.

I'm a Kara I've always preferred it to cara
