Boys name options including Byron, Roscoe and Eden...

DH and I just can't agree on boys' names for DC2 due soon (who may turn out to be a girl, saving us a lotta bother!)

We already have a Zachary/Zach and would like an equally or more unusual name but that doesn't sound totally off the wall or too poncey. I fear a few of the ones we like are actually quite poncey - so let me know what you think! Or suggest some similar options?

MILO - but does it sound like the name you'd give a dog? (sorry any Milo-mums!)
ROSCOE - I like but not keen on Ross if people shortened it
FINN- I prefer Finlay but that's getting pretty popular
EDEN - I really like this but worried it's considered too girly, though personally I think the way it sounds isn't girly at all.

There are one or two names we agree on like Heath or Ethan, but I'm not mega excited about them and want us to find a name we really like.

Eden does seem a bit girly to me. How about Aidan? Milo is a bit of a pets name. Finn is nice but sooooo popular. Byron reminds me of one I knew as a kid who was a bit of a bugger. How about Bryson? The bi-Ron thing wouldn't have occurred to me! Jude is ok, could take it or leave it. My vote goes to Roscoe, cool name!

If you like names ending in N what about Leon, Hayden or a surname type name such as Jackson?

I know an Eden who has suffered from the misconception that he's a girl from his name.

Also, as a secondary teacher, I know students with all of your suggested names, except Jude, Heath and Ethan. (and they're Law, Ledger and Hawke in my head) So they're not completely off the wall!

I've only met one Eden and he was male [drifts off to memories of 18 year old self in Ibiza 1998]. I've always regarded it as a masculine name.

Of the names you mention I liked Milo and Jude, afraid Eden to me is more a girl's name. Shame you don't fancy Heath, I'd suggest Harrison or even Hunter.

Maybe it's just where I'm from (I live in Glasgow, and not in a posh bit) but imo the other ones you mention sound awfully posh and round here any boy with those names would be teased mercilessly because there would be an assumption they were snobby and stuck-up. Just saying

I know/have met 5 Edens, all bar one are girls, it's a shortened version of my DDs name & weirdly as its not at all common around here, her best friends name too, the boy is American, where its more commonly used for boys, he was getting quite a bit of stick at the party we met him at, so I would avoid it for a boy

Thanks, this is great! I know it's all just a matter of opinion but it's good to canvas a range of random views as it will probably roughly reflect what my friends would think (and I don't want to spoil the surprise by telling them our ideas.)

noble yes I totally agree, Law, Ledger and Hawke all spring to mind for me too! But that wouldn't matter to DS's peers...assuming it is a he. We have a scan next week and I'm very tempted to find out.

Looks like Roscoe has the most positive response so far with no out-and-out dislikes. I like Oscar but it's so ubiquitous - apparently Roscoe was popular in 1920s America, so same era and similar sound but much more unusual. We actually found it from a Midlake albumn!

Aiden and Reuben are also nice names, as is Aaron. Hmmm! Choices, choices

In a similar vain to Eden, but much more masculine, how about Oren? It's a biblical, Hebrew name, just like Zachary, and not at all overused... My Hebrew is rusty, but it's a type of tree, just can't remember which one

I watched the Dukes as a kid but don't remember anyone except Bo and Luke! That doesn't bother me anyway, all names have some association for people.

Zachary = slightly creative strong character with depth.
