Do you know any? I have always been in love with the name, and just looking through names and I'm shocked to see its so popular according to the polls... Hmm

So how many is there really out there? I'm due August... Smile

Also from the south if that's any help...

Very popular and in my opinion, very frumpy.

flowerygirl · 16/02/2013 10:21

Beautiful name but so popular! Everytime someone has a baby girl and posts it on facebook it's called Isla...

Christelle2207 · 16/02/2013 21:23

Hey I'm due August too and it's our #1 girl name. Yes popular but I don't care. Just slightly worried (selfishly) that friend/family due before us may nick it.

schroedingersdodo · 17/02/2013 18:48

How do you pronouce it? I always thought it was like 'island' in Spanish, (Ees-la), but someone uptread said 'ayla' and now I'm confused...

Christelle2207 · 17/02/2013 19:24

if it was spanish then you would say it like in spanish however I think most people pronounce it like you were saying "island" in english, minus the "nd".

schroedingersdodo · 17/02/2013 21:05

thanks, christelle. My friend had an Isla recently and just assumed it was ees-la. You saved me from saying it wrong when I meet the baby... :)

mrstowers · 17/02/2013 21:25

Very popular here (Midlands), shame because it's a lovely name but I get bored of hearing that yet another baby girl has been called Isla.

MidnightMasquerader · 17/02/2013 21:25

Eye-la.

penguinplease · 17/02/2013 21:31

I know of 7 Islas and I know nearly as many Lolas which seems to be really popular now.

however if you like it use it, I have a really popular name of womens my age and although there were 6 of us in my year once I left school I only met a few..

WinterMymble · 17/02/2013 21:36

Beautiful name. I know three Islas under the age if five - I think it is in the top ten names in Scotland on those ONS lists?

Locketjuice · 18/02/2013 08:21

Thank you everyone, I still love the name but think it is going to be too popular for us Sad

Time to rethink.....

Could even be a blue one of course! Grin

And I like Isla-may or Isla-rose and his cousin just called her baby lyla-may..... Very very similar!

I have a 10 yr old Isla, and we have only met one other..
It's always spelt weirdly by people though!

blondieminx · 18/02/2013 08:29

I'm in the south and I know 3, all under 2yo.

Amanda6615 · 09/12/2021 17:09

Have you noticed on days out almost every family now seems to have an isla? My granddaughter isla has just started school, there seem to be a lot around her age

Mmr224 · 09/12/2021 17:10

Very popular here, we went with Iona instead for that reason.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 09/12/2021 18:01

Zombie thread from 2013. Baby Isla is now eight.

SivvyPlath · 09/12/2021 18:26

I know two - both born recently.

SivvyPlath · 09/12/2021 18:27

Oops!!

Foxglovers · 09/12/2021 21:04

It had been my baby name for years (since Isla Fisher in Home and Away!) but by the time I had my kids it was everywhere and put me off. It’s actually the one name I think I hear more than any other! I’m based in the South East

halloweenie13 · 10/12/2021 23:09

Very, I know of 6 isla's under 5 of friends children in Lincolnshire and my sister who is 10 has 2 in the same class at her school

Labellex · 10/12/2021 23:56

My niece is called Isla - London
