Feeling uninspired and can only come up with popular names - is there a good book I can get?

All the names I like are also really popular (top 15 and rising) and, having a normal yet relatively rarely used name, I'm keen for my child to not be one of 3, e.g., Oscars, in his year. The girls name I've always loved and always thought I would use if I ever had a daughter is now becoming really popular, which has put me off it.

So, I'd like to come up with names that aren't 'out there' but aren't overly used. I've scanned the entire national statistics top baby names of last year, written lists of all the ones I like, but still nothing really inspires me. Likewise, trolling the internet. While we want to meet our baby before we name it, I would like a decent long/shortlist before he or she arrives.

So, this is a long-winded way of asking if there are any good baby name books you'd recommend? There are a gazillion on Amazon and it's hard to tell which ones are any good.

Not sure about books but have you tried nameberry.com or appellationmountain.com boh are good.

Yup, I've tried those babyname sites (endlessly!). I think I need something I can physically browse, rather than online.

There's an American book called 'Bring Back Beatrice' you could try...
