I find that the more time I spend on these threads, the more esoteric the names I like are. I'm starting to wonder whether I'm losing perspective - Ptolomy? Johannes?

Yep.

Then I rebelled against the vipers and put a nickname on the birth certificate.

Ah. Very good.

It's made me less judgey about names others choose for their babies because the names we chose for ours are absolutely lashed on Baby Names!

Still no warmer to Ptolemy or Sholto, though ;)

I panicked when someone on here said dd's name was "about to get really really popular". It hasn't happened (so far) and I'm glad I didn't let it put me off.

Nope, my name choices in MN terms are boring, un imaginative, twee, nicknamey & 'i can't imagine .......being the name of a prime minister, political broadcaster or barrister!! (sonetimes i think these people have nothing better ti do with their time!) Luckily I'm a realist and have enough life experience and been aroubd the block enough times to know that a name doesn't determine what job or prospects they''ll have when they're older!
my dp's name was considered extremely 'chavvy' in his day but that didn't stop him from getting a job paying 60k a year!
Call your children whatever you want, it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks :) xx

I find myself suggesting names on here to people that if I said out loud in real life would have people I mix with howling with laughter....some of them I don't even like but think the poster will and I guess that's what counts.

If we all had the same taste it would be pretty boring.

We chose names for our boys that we liked and thought would take them through life without them being pidgeonholed as a particular class or type of person.
